Jack Della Maddalena vs. Danny Roberts

UFC Vegas 65 Welterweight Bout

Saturday, November 19, 2022 – 04:10 PM EST at UFC Apex

Jack Della Maddalena

  • Pro MMA Record: (12-2-0) (10 KOs, 1 submission, 1 decision)
  • UFC Record: 2-0 (2 KOs)

As a product of Scrappy MMA in Perth, Australia – a relatively unknown gym in the world of MMA, Jack Della Maddalena has been prideful of his achievement when becoming the first fighter to be signed by the UFC.

From two dominant amateur bouts in 2015, it wasn’t always plain sailing as the Aussie native debuted as a professional in 2016 and lost his first two competitive bouts. Since that painful awakening to the hard life of a pro-MMA fighter, Jack made a pact with his coach Bet Vickers that they would win ten consecutive fights. Impressively, Maddalena swept the floor with his competition and, following his ninth straight win, would be invited to Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.

The pact made by Maddalena and his coach surfaced as he scored a unanimous decision and a UFC contract in his 10th consecutive win. And to further prove his hunger to be the best, he’s already appeared twice in 2022 with back-to-back first-round stoppages over Pete Rodriguez and Ramazan Emeev.

Aged 26, Maddalena undoubtedly has a bright future, but this hasn’t come without sacrifice and dedication to the sport for over seven years. Alongside his brother, who trained with him in their mother’s garage, they equally found a love for MMA, and as Scrappy MMA gym intervened, it’s been nothing but an upwards projection for the Perth native ever since.

Jack Della Maddalena Fight Analysis

Every once in a while, we witness an unknown name arrive at the UFC, representing a gym we haven’t heard of, and they enter the cage with an aura that cannot be described. Maddalena is one of those guys. He isn’t a ten- or twenty-year veteran of MMA; he isn’t flashy or flamboyant, but his fighting spirit is evident, and the punishment he puts on his opposition cannot be ignored.

Predominantly a striker, he’s shown tight and accurate combinations with a forward-moving pressure that most fighters struggle to deal with. Past fights have demonstrated a level of recklessness, but this has been homed in since in his past few fights as we watch the Aussie fine tune his MMA skillset.

From straight shots, hooks, elbows, flying knees, and leg kicks, Maddalena has a toolbox of striking variations that keep the opposition guessing. However, he isn’t going to stand and point as he throws these strikes to turn the lights off for whomever he faces.

As a BJJ brown belt, we know he isn’t entirely lost in the grappling realm, while his takedown defense and ability to return to the feet were displayed on DWCS. This, however, is still a grey area of his game that hasn’t been entirely tested, but as a striker, he’s looked like a star in the making thus far.

Maddalena vs. Roberts Betting Pick & Odds

Danny Roberts (18-6-0) is a seven-year UFC veteran that arrived in the welterweight rankings as a 6-0 undefeated Cage Warriors prospect. However, the inability to string together consecutive win streaks in the UFC has the 35-year-old progression to a standstill.

Unfortunately for Roberts, he isn’t getting any younger, and he’s going to face a lot of up-and-coming fighters looking to make a name off the back of his. The UFC Vegas 65 betting odds at our top-rated sportsbooks favor the fight-ending ability of Maddalena, and he’ll enter this weekend’s fight night event as the most significant betting favorite.

Wagering in the -400 region is nerve-racking, but the durability of Roberts has always been in question, and he will likely stand and exchange strikes with the Aussie. A questionable chin versus a new generation of fighters, with 10 of his 12 career victories coming via KO/TKO, is the recipe you want when betting on the knockout prop.
