Neil Magny vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov

Saturday, June 25, 2022 – 10:05 PM EDT at UFC Apex

Magny vs. Rakhmonov Fight Preview

That has been the trend with a lot of these Fight Night Cards the past few months have been up and down like someone went crazy in Rollercoaster Tycoon.

This is one of those cards where you probably check whether the restaurant by you has a table for dinner or you go to see a friend you haven’t checked in with in a while.

That’s the rock and the hard place for the UFC in 2022, they need the events to make money, but the effort, care, and precision that you’d want as a fan/bettor/expert in the nearly 30-year-old company’s cards are sporadic.

We are rarely able to sink our teeth into it because either the big PPV card is right around the corner, or the cards become so anemic that it becomes a slog to get to/through.

Neil Magny Fighter Profile

Who doesn’t love Neil Magny if you’re a diehard MMA head?  He’s won three of his last four fights within the Octagon, but walks into this fight a +300 underdog against Shavkat Rakhmonov who is at -400 at BMR’s top-rated books and betting sites and I get it.

Shavkat Rakhmonov Fighter Profile

Rakhmonov is undefeated and has never seen a scorecard in his professional career. If I were in the UFC marketing department, I’d build a social campaign around this blur of TKOs and submissions coming on to take a certified name with MMA fans and try to cultivate some undercard interest in this show.

Neil Magny vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov Betting Analysis

It would help as Magny’s last six fights went to a decision (winning all but one against Michael Chiesa), with all but his win over Max Griffin in March of this year being unanimous decisions for or against Magny.

When you have a certified smashing machine (shout out Mark Kerr, then now and forever) going up against someone who can grind someone for three to five-round.

You can market this as two unique fighters and a generational schism that could be a really interesting marketing play set against the Stanley Cup Finals, but what the hell do I know anyway?

If you’re looking at the best bet on the card, I would take the over 2 ½ rounds (+110) for this fight, and may you be blessed with a solid gold boat!
