We’re back at the UFC Apex this Saturday, June 4th for UFC Vegas 56. Headlining the card, we have a clash between two exceptional heavyweights, Alexander Volkov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

This entire card has a lot of hot prospects and valuable plays, and I wanted to highlight a couple of bouts that I’ve been keeping a close eye on: Niklas Stolze vs. Benoit Saint-Denis and Ode’ Osbourne vs. Zarrukh Adashev. Read below for my UFC picks.

Niklas Stolze vs. Benoit Saint-Denis

UFC Lightweight Preliminary Bout

Saturday, June 04, 2022 – 02:50 PM EDT at UFC Apex

Who is Niklas Stolze?

Niklas “Green Mask” Stolze is a German mixed martial artist with a professional record of 12 wins (4 T/KO, 5 submissions, 3 decisions) and 5 losses (1 T/KO, 4 decisions).

With a background in kickboxing, Stolze mainly relies on his counter-striking rather than using his limbs and kicks to keep his opponents at range. This often leads to Stolze not having control of the pace and giving up a victory. Stolze is an accurate striker when in range, and prefers to keep the fight standing.

Saturday night will be Stolze’s third UFC bout and is currently 0-2 within the promotion with losses against Ramazan Emeev by decision and Jared Gooden by knockout.

Who is Benoit Saint-Denis?

Benoit “God of War” Saint-Denis is a French mixed martial artist with a professional record of 8 wins (1 T/KO, 7 submissions) and 1 loss (1 decision).

Saint-Denis is primarily a grappler that has also shown a lot of durability on the feet. He uses his striking as a counterattack if he is unable to get the fight to the ground. However, Benoit’s counterattacks are powerful and lethal, especially his hooks.

Saturday night will be Saint-Denis’s second UFC bout. In his UFC debut back in October 2021, Benoit lost to Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos by unanimous decision.

Stolze vs. Saint-Denis: Pick and Prediction

The current UFC odds for this matchup are Niklas Stolze +128 and Benoit Saint-Denis -148 at your top-rated sportsbooks

There is a clear path to victory for both men. Stolze needs to keep this fight standing to win a technical bout, and Saint-Denis needs this fight on the ground to secure another submission. I will have to give the edge to the submission artist.

Since Stolze is a counter striker, I envision Benoit being able to bring this fight to the ground to have it his way. If Stolze utilizes his kickboxing well and is able to stay at range, then I can see Stolze winning a technical bout. But again, due to him mainly relying on his counter-striking, I have to give the edge to the Frenchman.

Ode' Osbourne vs. Zarrukh Adashev

UFC Flyweight Main Card Bout

Saturday, June 04, 2022 - 04:35 PM EDT at UFC Apex

Who is Ode' Osbourne?

“The Jamaican Sensation” Ode' Osbourne is an American mixed martial artist with a professional record of 10 wins (4 T/KO, 4 Submissions, 2 Decisions) and 4 losses (1 T/KO, 2 Submissions, 1 Decision).

Osbourne is an exceptional overall martial artist. He is sharp with his striking and holds a high guard, however, he can get loose with his striking leaving openings.

Fighting out of a southpaw stance, his long reach and powerful punches can give him the advantage on Saturday night

Who is Zarrukh Adashev?

Zarrukh “the Lion” Adashev is an American mixed martial artist with a current professional record of 4 wins (2 T/KO, 2 Decisions) and 3 losses (1 T/KO, 1 Submission, 1 Decision).

Adashev is a well-rounded martial artist with a background in kickboxing. He has sharp, quick movements and can fight as a pace holder or counter striker. Adashev’s biggest weapon would be his leg kicks; they easily break down his opponents.

Osbourne vs. Adashev: Pick and Prediction

The current UFC odds for this matchup are Ode' Osbourne -185 and Zarrukh Adashev +160 at your top-rated sportsbooks.

I could make a great argument for both fighters in this one, but the dog value and well-roundedness of Adashev are what stand out to me. Yes, Adashev is 1-2 in his last 3 bouts, but he has grown exceptionally in terms of his overall skills. His striking is quick and powerful, and his fight IQ is entirely sharp.

Osbourne is powerful and has a great fight IQ as well, but I think Adashev is able to adapt to his opponents quicker. Adashev will throw down on leg kicks to cripple Osbourne, assisting him in a victory whether inside the distance or at the cards.
