Joe Solecki vs. Alex da Silva

UFC Lightweight Preliminary Bout

UFC Hot Prospect: Alex "Leko" da Silva

  • Record: 21-3-0

26-year-old Alex da Silva Coelho makes his long-awaited return to the UFC octagon since his unanimous decision loss to Brad Riddell in 2020. Da Silva was just 24-years-old at the time of the loss to the well-experienced kickboxer in Riddell.

Despite owning a 1-2 UFC record, the Brazilian native has now gathered a wealth of valuable experience. We should expect more notable attributes in his toolbox following a lengthy time spent in the gym since his previous bout.

As a native of Brazil, Da Silva trains out of the Astra Fight Team in Santa Catarina alongside numerous elite-level martial artists, including the likes of top-ranked UFC middleweight Darren Till, as a previous mentor.

Having competed as a professional since the age of 18, Da Silva isn't shy of in-cage experience. To make his 21-3-0 record more impressive, he's finished 20 of those 21 bouts via knockout or submission.

Alex da Silva Fight Analysis

Strengths

  • "Leko" owns a well-rounded skill set, but his comfortability becomes notable when standing and striking.
  • Da Silva has a fair share of one-punch knockouts on his pro record as he boasts a deceptive amount of punching power.
  • Behind slick combinations, head kicks, and leg kicks, he also presents a reputable wrestling offense and defense.
  • His top game is undoubtedly his strong suit when evaluating the overall ground game.

Weaknesses

  • Cardio issues could be a cause for concern, and his striking speed does tend to slow down in the later rounds.
  • However, at such a young age, we can expect these red flags to be highlighted and repaired by his team.

Solecki vs. da Silva: Betting Pick and Prediction

Joe Solecki (11-3-0) is another young prospect who has the potential to own a bright future in the UFC. With that said, and despite owning a 3-1 UFC record to date, Solecki has faced ageing veterans who struggled to handle his youthful attributes.

Top sportsbooks and betting sites opened Da Silva as a +200 underdog, and the value is dropping as we speak. This was a complete overestimation in favor of Solecki, and if he fails to wrestle and control the ground game for three straight rounds, he will be outclassed on the feet.

I believe da Silva's hips are strong enough to prevent Solecki from taking complete control of a grappling war, and on the feet, the Brazilian will own a significant advantage.
