UFC Fight Night Hot Prospect: Kakhramonov (9-2-0)
Although he didn't make the UFC's bantamweight roster in a traditional contract-signing manner, 26-year-old Saidyokub Kakhramonov made a massive statement upon his arrival to the company in August of 2021.
The Uzbekistan native accepted a short-notice bout agreement to face Trevin Jones. With a mere four days' notice ahead of his scheduled UFC in Vegas 34 promotional debut, a 3rd round guillotine choke stoppage has catapulted the Team Oyama prospect into the deep waters of UFC's 135lb division.
Kakhramonov will now face the well-experienced Brian Kelleher in his second walk to the octagon. However, should we expect an even more impressive outing with an entire training camp behind him?
Stemming from a solid grappling background, Kakhramonov boasts credible skills in Judo and Sambo. He's won the U.S. Open in Judo and is a multiple-time Sambo Champion. Despite having just eleven fights on his professional MMA record, Kakhramonov has undoubtedly faced a stiff level of competition in fighters such as Umar Nurmagomedov, Askar Askar, and Pipe Vargas.
UFC in Vegas 46: Kakhramonov Fight Analysis
To no surprise, most of Kakhramonov's success has been obtained through the utilization of his grappling prowess. With that said, he isn't a one-dimensional fighter and has previously displayed his capability of ending fights on the feet. Exchanging punches inside the pocket would be a bad idea for any of his future opponents, as this is where he's known to unleash some serious power punches.
Furthermore, his striking output has been a great assistant for the grappling skills at hand. Behind a 1-2 striking combination, he'll chain these shots into dropping levels and shooting for a takedown. With notable timing on his wrestling entries, incredible judo trips from awkward angles, and a strong ability to chain-wrestle, we can assume this youngster's skillset to evolve throughout his UFC tenure.
UFC Fight Night: Kelleher vs. Kakhramonov Betting Pick and Odds
I'm under no illusion that Brian Kelleher is a challenging encounter for any newcomer with little experience. However, we're going to witness a style of clashes where I believe the youthful, hungrier fighter in Kakhramonov can prove his worth.
We know exactly what we're getting from Kelleher; if he cannot land a double-leg takedown, maintain top-control, or lock up a guillotine choke, he will likely struggle to win the contest.
I expect the Uzbekistan native can nullify Kelleher's wrestling offense and potentially win the exchanges in this area. On the feet, I believe he can achieve the same success and beat Kelleher to the punch with a speed advantage.
Under an entire fight camp with the opportunity to make a huge statement, I'm comfortable supporting the top-rated sportsbooks' betting odds of -157 on Kakhramonov.
