UFC in Vegas Hot Prospect: Mateusz Gamrot (21-4-0)
Although he didn't arrive in the UFC octagon until the age of thirty, Polish-native Mateusz Gamrot hopes he can follow the footsteps of his nation's predecessors in Jan Błachowicz and Joanna Jędrzejczyk by one day obtaining UFC gold.
Stemming from a diverse and well-established background in mixed martial arts, Gamrot left UFC President Dana White no other choice but to acquire his services. As one of Poland's most accomplished grappling standouts, his expectations upon arrival to the UFC have been high.
Initially starting his journey into martial arts on the wrestling mats, Gamrot used his skills to achieve European and international success as both an amateur and professional. In addition to his wrestling attributes and championship-winning repertoire, Gamot added a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt into the mix.
With countless grappling and wrestling achievements obtained, he polished his striking offense whilst competing for the KSW MMA promotion for seven years before joining the UFC.
The level of competition Gamrot has contended with during his wrestling, grappling/jiu-jitsu, and MMA has been fierce – with an outstanding overall fight record of 235-61-8.
UFC in Vegas 45: Mateusz Gamrot Fight Analysis
Prior to his placement on the UFC roster, Gamrot was widely recognized as one of the best talents outside of the UFC's talent pool. As a former two-division champion for KSW, a two-time ADCC European Champion, and a two- ADCC Polish Champion, many critics expect the grappling prowess of Gamrot to lead him into UFC title contention.
There's no denying that Gamrot is a pure wrestler through and through, and his most viable paths to victory are often met through the utilization of this skillset. You'll notice that his striking offense delivers a lot of single strikes rather than the more technical approach found behind a set of combination strikes. With that said, he does offer a sneaky head kick, but he lacks power and technicality in this area.
His grappling usually focuses on chain wrestling over single shot completions, with a lot of strength, pressure, and sometimes a trick-to-defend ankle pick style; he's a difficult opponent to sprawl and defend against.
UFC in Vegas 45: Gamrot vs. Ferreira Betting Pick and Odds
If the UFC wants to propel Gamrot through their ranking system during his prime fighting years, Diego Ferreira is a masterful opponent to test the water. Much like Gamrot, Ferreira is an elite grappler, but more towards the jiu-jitsu aspect – boasting a 3rd-degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt.
Ferreira doesn't find problems when he's the aggressor, but his takedown defense hasn't been desirable across his previous two fights – with nine takedowns going against him. I don't believe Gamrot has the traditional wrestling chops of Gregor Gillespie, but he undoubtedly owns a skill level that can breach Ferreira's defense.
I anticipate another grappling/wrestling masterclass from Gamrot, making him a wise betting choice at the best sportsbooks for this weekend's UFC in Vegas 45 event.
