UFC 285 Information

  • Date & Time: Saturday, March 4, 2023 – 05:30 EST
  • Location: T-Mobile Arena
  • Scheduled Fights: 14
  • Main Event: Jon Jones vs. Ciryl Gane (UFC Heavyweight Bout)

Garry/Song Under 2.5 Rounds (-200) Reasoning

Six of Song’s previous eight bouts have ended inside the distance, as he’s returning from a TKO loss to Max Griffin.

I believe Garry owns a more technical striking offense than both Griffin and Song and should have enough to put Song away inside two rounds.

Additionally, nine of Garry’s eleven pro-MMA wins ended by TKO/KO, and Song has power of his own, as the potential for a TKO/KO upset shouldn’t be written off.

Tabatha Ricci Moneyline (-300) Reasoning

The tape study reveals that Ricci has a significant advantage in all aspects of MMA versus Penne.

Aside from experience, I don’t see any other factors that will assist Penne in this bout.

Speed, age, grappling, striking, and jiu-jitsu will favor the Brazilian and her (-300) price tag is fair, especially considering the high amount of juiced prices on this UFC 285 card.

Ian Machado Garry vs. Kenan Song

UFC 285 Welterweight Bout

Betting Preview

Garry Analysis

He was tipped as the next “big thing” out of Ireland since Conor McGregor, and despite his questionable skills on the microphone, Ian Garry (10-0-0) undoubtedly lived up to the hype thus far.

The problem is the (-700) cost.

This price isn’t warranted, and the hype has certainly provided hype at the sportsbook from avid bettors putting faith in the Irishman.

Song Analysis

China’s Kenan Song (19-6-0) hasn’t had the worst beginning to his UFC tenure.

Since debuting for the promotion in 2017, he’s amassed a 4-2 record with three knockout wins.

However, losses to Max Griffin and Alex Morono have made it clear he can’t compete with the division's elite.

UFC 285 Parlay Prediction: Leg 1

I’m not completely sold on Garry, and Song is an excellent test. If Ireland’s representative fails this task, he’ll instantly lose his hype. However, he should have the size and technical advantage over his opponent in all areas.

Both men can end this fight inside the distance, and with such a big platform to showcase their skills on, I expect a slugfest will ensue.

The available UFC odds with Bookmakers Review aren’t worth placing a moneyline wager.

However, with two powerful strikers going toe-to-toe, the under 2.5 rounds is an intriguing parlay addition that could cash from either fighter's in-octagon efforts.

UFC Pick: Ian Garry/Kenan Song - Under 2.5 Rounds (-200)

Jessica Penne vs. Tabatha Ricci

UFC 285 Women’s Strawweight Bout

Betting Preview

Penne Analysis

Jessica Penne (14-6-0) is no spring chicken, aged 40 years old. But with age comes wisdom, and she’s notably 1-2 in her previous three fights despite reaching the latter stage of her career.

Penne’s immediate success in the octagon stems from grappling, takedowns, and the occasional submission. She can hang on her feet but doesn’t present much danger to her opponents in this area.

Ricci Analysis

Brazilian native Tabatha Ricci (7-1-0) is on the opposite end of her career compared to Penne. Aged just 28, the product of Paragon Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dominated the competition offered in LFA before joining the UFC in 2021, where she’s collected two wins and one loss.

Ricci is a skilled jiu-jitsu expert, and her takedown offense will likely be the key factor in Saturday’s fight. Penne can put up submissions of her back, but the BJJ experience of Ricci should be enough to defend these attempts.

UFC 285 Parlay Prediction: Leg 2

The odds aren’t pretty, but they’re pretty telling.

Ricci is the rightful favorite and will own a significant advantage in multiple areas. Ricci will own the striking advantage, power, cardio, and age. She’s still growing in the sport, and as the odds suggest, she shouldn’t have many issues competing with an aging fighter in Penne.

The available UFC Vegas 285 odds with Bookmakers Review placed Ricci as a significant favorite, and the betting public steamed the line even more.

Behind a judo black belt and notable BJJ skills, Penne will struggle to see her game plan of takedown and control. Ricci will likely dominate wherever this fight takes place – standing or on the ground – and she could make the (-300) price tag seem like excellent value by the time the fights end.

UFC Pick: Tabatha Ricci ML (-300)
