Rani Yahya vs. Kyung Ho Kang

Saturday, November 20, 2021 – 06:05 PM EST at UFC Apex Center

Former World ADCC Submission Wrestling champion Rani Yahya (27-10-0) returns to the octagon seeking yet another submission victory to compile onto an already astounding number of 21. Owner of a 2nd-degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, Yahya’s transition into MMA has delivered a 77.78% submission rate across the past sixteen years.

Kyung Ho Kang (17-8-0) has been absent from the UFC octagon for the previous 22 months. And the grappling heavy bantamweight will undoubtedly want to mind his p’s and q’s should he attempt to scramble with one of the company’s most decorated jiu-jitsu practitioners in Yahya.

Yahya vs. Kang Fight Breakdown

You have to feel for Kang, riding a 6-2 UFC record his growth in the bantamweight division was stunted by such a long layoff, and upon his return, he’ll be faced a veteran force in Yahya who’ll be hunting for a limb or Kang’s neck from the onset. The stylistic matchup between these two is certainly an intriguing one, as the success both men have garnered is often from a grappling-based offense.

Kang is well-rounded, he does make good use of his jab on the feet, but ultimately, he likes to put himself in top position by eventually landing a double leg takedown. He will struggle to rely on his primary skillset, and across the 15-minute time limit, I struggle not to envision Yahya landing yet another submission.

UFC in Vegas 43 Prop Betting Picks and UFC Odds

The available UFC odds with Bookmakers Review are giving us a gift with the under 2 and a ½ rounds at plus money. A matchup with Yahya involved significantly increases the chance of a finish – I’ll take my chances. If Kang manages to avoid the relentless grappling of Yahya, a TKO finish is also a possibility.

Talia Santos vs. Joanne Calderwood

Saturday, November 20, 2021 - 06:05 PM EST at UFC Apex Center

Talia Santos’ (18-1-0) rise through the UFC women’s flyweight rankings began with her first professional MMA loss in 2019. Still, since then, the Brazilian native has won three consecutive bouts and is starting to put her stamp on the 125lb division.

Joanne "Jo Jo" Calderwood (15-6-1) has fought the who’s who of women’s competition, but her quest for gold has been side-tracked with a streaky record. There’s no denying Calderwood’s muay Thai skillset, but aged 35.-years-old, we could witness a passing of the torch this Saturday evening.

Santos vs. Calderwood Fight Breakdown

Santos is quietly making a name for herself by disposing of the opposition, but she could be meeting an opponent who can equal her technical striking offense in Calderwood.

The Scotland native has a more diverse set of strikes, in my opinion, with some tremendous front kicks, deep kicks, lead elbows, and high kicks. However, Jo Jo’s best chance of victory is when her opponent allows her to remain technical and relaxed; once the pressure is put on, she tends to wilt and shy away from being damaged.

Santos’ aggression and ground abilities make me believe that she can take a unanimous decision without considering age and a pang of hunger that may not live inside the stomach of Calderwood.

The available UFC odds with Bookmaker Review favor the Brazilian, but they’re incredibly juiced. The -300 money line on Santos isn’t desirable, but as I believe Calderwood’s toughness will outlast the aggressive nature of Santos, taking Santos to win by a decision can raise our betting value.
