Alexander Volkov vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik

UFC Heavyweight Main Event Bout

Saturday, June 04, 2022 – 09:05 PM EDT at UFC Apex Center

Alexander Volkov (34-10-0)

Despite his unsuccessful attempts at claiming championship gold, Russia’s most notable UFC heavyweight Alexander Volkov has consistently positioned himself within the top rankings behind a well-versed set of skills.

A Russian presence within the UFC’s Heavyweight division top-ten ranks hasn’t yet surfaced as Volkov continues to fly the flag.

Despite losing four of his eight UFC appearances thus far, it should be noted that these losses have come against the most elite offerings at this weight class.

Aged just 33 years old, Volkov is considered young for the heavier weight classes. As a former heavyweight champion in both M-1 & Bellator MMA promotions, he boasts the experience of a true veteran martial artist.

I don’t believe a title run is obtainable; I have no doubt he’ll maintain his gatekeeper status for years to come.

Alexander Volkov MMA Accomplishments

  • UFC Fight of the Night (One time)
  • UFC Performance of the Night (Two times)
  • Bellator Heavyweight World Champion (One time)
  • M-1 Global Heavyweight Championship (One time)

Jairzinho Rozenstruik (12-3-0)

Hailing from Suriname in South America, Jairzinho Rozenstruik began training in martial arts at age eighteen.

When local legend Michael Babb eventually discovered him, his skill set would evolve to a new level.

After his debut fight and loss, the fierce striker turned that loss into fighting fuel – a first-round knockout during his second attempt, earning the title “Bigi Boy”.

Further training and professional competition led Rozenstruik to become an 8-time champion with over 80 fights, 52 of those contests ending via knockout.

This success in Kickboxing and Muay Thai led him into full-time MMA, and since 2017 he has accumulated an impressive 9-3 record, with eight of those fights ending due to the incredible power he possesses.

Rozenstruik has been and will continue to be a huge threat for any UFC heavyweight opponent that faces him, and a lengthy striking career has supplied him with a wealth of experience that can assist him amongst the elite.

Expect “Bigi-Boy” to continue making waves on the UFC roster in the years to come.

  • UFC Performance of the Night (One time) vs. Allen Crowder
  • Multiple Time Kickboxing & Muay Thai Champion

Volkov vs. Rozenstruik Breakdown and Analysis

Rozenstruik Style

When focussing on Rozenstruik’s notable attributes during his MMA career, it's no surprise that his offensive striking has dictated almost all of his pro bouts.

The worst game plan for any opponent of Rozenstruik to make is when they decide to pressure him, as the Suriname native owns some of the crispest counter striking in the business.

A step-back left hook has finished multiple opponents during his professional MMA tenure.

How Can Rozenstruik Defeat Volkov?

Past kickboxing experience becomes apparent with his mixture of low kicks to assist those heavy hands.

Rozenstruik is a relaxed tactician in the octagon, but he will attack with a vengeance once you open a reachable angle for him.

The ideal game plan for Rozenstruik is to do what he does best, stay calm and read his opponent until the opportunity of a heavy attack presents itself.

Volkov Fight Style

Vieira’s best work also stems from a striking base, but with a 6-foot 7-inch stature, the Russian can enjoy life at a distance whilst popping his straight shots and jabs towards the smaller opponents.

A kickboxing and karate background perfectly complements a stature that often makes the opposing heavyweights look tiny.

How Can Volkov Defeat Rozenstruik?

Should Volkov initiate a grappling game plan, he could undoubtedly lead this contest. However, his timing will need to be perfect when closing the distance.

Elsewhere, if he can remain on the outside for five rounds, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him outstrike Rozenstruik with sheer volume.

But again, leg kicks could make this approach detrimental to the game plan, similar to closing the distance.

Volkov vs. Rozenstruik Betting Prediction

The available odds at Bookmakers Review favor Volkov, but the moneyline odds aren’t significantly wide; this is a brutal fight to wager on, no matter how you look at it.

Moneyline and total bets are both a mystery as Rozenstruik is a finisher, and Volkov tends to point-fight. Based on pure martial art skills, Volkov should be the selection.

If only life was that simple because then you must consider Rozenstruik and his fight-ending power that stems right up until the final rounds.

It’s a coin toss, and my money is on Rozenstruik finding a knockout shot within twenty-five minutes.

I don’t believe he’ll be the more excellent technician, but I anticipate he can counterstrike his way into another highlight-reel stoppage.
