Katlyn Chookagian vs. Manon Fiorot

UFC 280 Women’s Flyweight Main Card Bout

Saturday, October 22, 2022 – 02:10 PM EDT at Etihad Arena

French prospect Manon Fiorot (9-1-0) has impressed with a 5-0 UFC record since her promotional debut in 2021. But the actual test for Fiorot has arrived as she reaches the top-5 ranked women in the flyweight division.

Katlyn Chookagian (18-4-0) is a veteran inside the UFC octagon and has become a household name with her current 4-fight win streak.

She has already received a flyweight title opportunity, but another win this weekend would undeniably place her in a position to contend with Valentina Shevchenko again.

Chookagian vs. Fiorot Fight Breakdown

Chookagian finds the most success from a high-level striking output, but with a lack of power and now faced with a high-level striker; I believe she could fall victim to the incoming strikes of Fiorot.

Fiorot’s jab and leg kicks are excellent, while Chookagian likes to unleash her punching combinations in the pocket.

Skills and Experience

Skill for skill, Chookagian likely owns the advantage as her takedown offense is notably better, but I don’t expect it to be good enough to keep Fiorot grounded for all three rounds.

With the experience, length, and grappling advantage, I can see the top-rated sportsbooks taking plenty of action on Chookagian. However, she doesn’t utilize her size well and will often leave her chin open for the taking.

Stylistically, I expect the intelligence, aggression, and striking advantage to give Fiorot a unanimous decision victory.

Chookagian vs. Fiorot: Analysis and Prediction

The UFC odds with Bookmaker Review aren’t gifting much value on the moneyline, but the toughness of Chookagian should be enough to survive the complete three rounds.

Therefore, Fiorot to win on points offers closet plus money and a much more significant piece of value.

Beneil Dariush vs. Mateusz Gamrot

UFC 280 Lightweight Main Card Bout

Saturday, October 22, 2022 - 02:35 PM EDT at Etihad Arena

Beneil Dariush (21-4-1) has risen to the top rankings of the lightweight division, and rightfully so. Four stoppages inside the distance have accompanied a 7-fight win streak, but the level of competition is about to change.

Polish standout Mateusz Gamrot (21-1-0) is the future of the UFC lightweight division and has looked almost unstoppable since his initial five UFC bouts.

One blip versus Guram Kutateladze is still argued to this day, where critics believe Gamrot was the rightful winner. But his return delivered three consecutive stoppages and a notable dominance over fellow top prospect Arman Tsarukyan.

Dariush vs. Gamrot: Fight Breakdown

It’s a shame that Dariush will likely miss the opportunity to challenge for the championship because I can’t envision a world where he overcomes the grappling skillset of Gamrot.

Aged 33, Dariush isn’t old, but he’s been through countless wars in the eight years he’s competed in the UFC. The win streak looks impressive, but he’s notably aging beyond his years and struggling to battle the new generation of MMA athletes in Gamrot.

Tony Ferguson is a great example, a positive win streak is only relevant until it isn’t, and I believe we’ll witness a downtrend from Dariush as he’s now facing the top-ranked lightweights on the planet.

Injuries and Form

With a bold opinion, I envision Gamrot dominating Dariush from start to finish. I can't give Dariush the advantage anywhere in this bout, striking or grounded.

Injuries and a slow pace are concerns for Dariush, who’s proven to own questionable durability in the past. I have a feeling this bout is going to be a mauling in favor of Gamrot.

Dariush vs. Gamrot: Analysis and Prediction

The available UFC odds are showing some respectable value on the Gamrot moneyline at -190, but you’ve arrived here for the props, and at +250, the Pole to win inside the distance is a price I can’t ignore.
