Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal

UFC Welterweight Main Event Bout

Saturday, March 5, 2022 – 10: 05 PM at T-Mobile Arena

Betting Pick Analysis

Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington (16-3-0) isn't the most likable character on the roster, but there's a reason why he's the No.2 ranked 155lb fighter on the planet.

Behind a wealth of accomplishments during his school years on the wrestling circuit, Covington has been competing, beating, and training with the most elite fighters for the last decade.

Jorge Masvidal (35-15-0) is quite the opposite of his opponent this Saturday but equally as skilled. Most recognized for his striking offense, the "BMF" champion who defeated Nate Diaz for the makeshift championship undoubtedly lives up to the title meaning…"Bad Mother Fu**er".

UFC 272 Parlay Prediction and Odds

The history and animosity between Covington and Masvidal is the reason why this contest can headline a pay-per-view without a championship up for grabs, but controlling the potential emotional mistakes will be imperative.

The available UFC odds with Bookmakers Review are heavily in favor of Covington, and it's hard to disagree with the oddsmaker's opinion. Yes, Masvidal is an excellent striker with a level of experience that many cannot match. However, Covington is a championship-caliber of a fighter; without the presence of Kamaru Usman, he'd unquestionably be holding the welterweight division title.

If Covington feels uncomfortable in his striking offense, he can overwhelm Masvidal with his wrestling skillset at any time during the fight. We've watched Masvidal struggle with his grappling defense on multiple occasions, so it's not difficult to envision Covington dominating this contest on the canvas.

Umar Nurmagomedov vs. Brian Kelleher

UFC Featherweight Preliminary Bout

Saturday, March 5, 2022 – 10:05 PM EST T-Mobile Arena

Betting Pick Analysis

Umar Nurmagomedov (13-0-0) continues his quest to become the world's most successful bantamweight competitor, and he isn't doing a bad job thus far behind thirteen consecutive victories and zero defeats.

As the cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov, 26-year-old Umar has one of the strongest teams in the American Kickboxing Academy behind him. And although living in the shadow of his cousin is inevitable, to begin with, Umar's diverse and dominant skillset will one day carve a legacy of his own.

Brian Kelleher (24-12-0) is a true company man, accepting a fight on short notice versus one of the most prosperous up-and-coming fighters in Umar. Aged 35, at the least, he'll own a significant experience advantage with 36 professional fights on his record. Unfortunately, the chips look stacked against American native in terms of skillset.

UFC Parlay Prediction: Fight Goes the Distance/No (-110) with BetOnline

UFC 272: Parlay Prediction and Odds

Separating himself from most Dagestani fighters, Umar has elevated his striking offense, which could one day reach the elite level of his sambo wrestling. We have a future champion in our presence on this Saturday's preliminary card. And while the focus of Khabib's trained fighters is currently on Islam Makhachev, I believe the spotlight will be shared with Umar in the years to come.

The available odds have positioned Umar as this weekend's highest-priced betting favorite. And to keep it completely honest, I struggle to disagree with them. With that said, the value can be found in expecting this fight to avoid the judge's scorecards. I can envision multiple scenarios where Umar can stop Kelleher inside the distance, whether the utilization of his striking or submission ability finds the finish.

The UFC 272 Punching Parlay

  • Covington to Win (-325)
  • Nurmagomedov/Kelleher: Fight Goes the Distance - No (-110)
