The round of 16 is here at Wimbledon and 16 men and women vie for the most prestigious title in the sport of tennis.

Let’s take a look at today’s featured matches on Center Court to find more winning tennis picks.

Rafael Nadal vs. Botic van de Zandschulp

Monday, July 04, 2022 – 11:45 AM EDT at Center Court

A great champion in the twilight of his career comes up against a player who is finally found finding his form when Rafael Nadal takes on Botic van de Zandschulp. Let's take a look at how these two players match up.

Rafael Nadal Preview

  • Rafael Nadal is coming off his best performance of the tournament so far, a 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Lorenzo Sonego.
  • He has been at the top of the ATP Tour for the last 15 years.
  • Nadal has won 15 matches in a row at the round of 16 in Grand Slams.
  • His last loss in the round of 16 was in 2017 at Wimbledon when he lost a five-set match to Gilles Muller.

Rafael Nadal had an interesting moment in his win over Lorenzo Sonego. He was upset with Sonego’s grunting and called him to the net to explain his displeasure with his actions.

He was criticized, and in his post-match interview said in hindsight he should have gone to the umpire. It is a rare misstep of sportsmanship for Nadal who was the winner of the 2021 ATP Sportsmanship Award.

Botic van de Zandschulp Preview

  • Botic van de Zandschulp is coming off today 7-5, 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 victory over Richard Gasquet.
  • He enjoyed a meteoric rise up the rankings last year and now is ranked 25th in the world.
  • Van de Zandschulp has lost to a top five player in his last three Grand Slam appearances.

Van de Zandschulp has definitely risen his level of play and is beating other players around his ranking level. Unfortunately for him, Nadal meets the criteria of being a top five player.

Players Matchup

  • Both players have lost two sets en route to their meeting on Center Court today.
  • Rafael Nadal and Botic van de Zandschulp met in the French Open this year.
  • Nadal enjoyed a comfortable 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 win.

Van de Zandschulp is a right-handed player with a two handed backhand. Nadal loves to target his opponent's backhand in cross-court rallies. For van de Zandschulp to win he will need to be able to withstand the pressure that Nadal's forehand puts on his backhand.

Rafael Nadal's backhand is solid and should withstand the pressure that van de Zandschulp will produce with his forehand to Nadal's backhand cross-court rallies.

Van de Zandschulp has a very strong serve. However, Nadal's ability to use his left-handed slice serve to bring him completely off the court on the ad side will prove to be a big advantage in the game's most decisive points.

Nadal vs. van de Zandschulp: Betting Pick and Prediction

Our best bet for this Center Court matchup is Under 34.5 games. I think this match will be similar to the French Open matchup where Rafael Nadal wins easily. Botic van de Zandschulp is playing well right now and he can defeat most players around his ranking level but he has shown that he struggles to raise his level to beat the elite.

Nadal's ability to pick on van de Zandschulp’s backhand will be decisive in most extended rallies. Nadal will have a huge edge on points that last longer than five shots.

The Spanish has the experience advantage and comes into this match brimming with confidence. He has been incredibly successful this year and there is no reason to believe that he will suddenly experience a huge drop in level of play. Rafael Nadal will win this match quickly.

Simona Halep vs. Paula Badosa

Monday, July 04, 2022 - 10:30 AM EDT at Center Court

The world number four takes on a former Wimbledon champion when Paula Badosa and Simona Halep meet on Center Court. Both players come into the match in excellent form. Let's take a look at how they match up.

Simona Halep Preview

  • Simona Halep is on a 10-match winning streak at Wimbledon.
  • She won the tournament in 2019 but missed the tournament in 2020 and 2021.

Paula Badosa Preview

  • Paula Badosa scored the most impressive win by beating Petra Kvitova in her last match where she won 7-5, 7-6.
  • The win over Petra Kvitova was Paula Badosa's first over a seeded opponent on grass courts.
  • She was clutch when needed against Kvitova, saving 10 of 11 break points.
  • Badosa is the only top 10 seeded player remaining.

Players Matchup

  • Neither player has lost a set en route to the round of 16 for this match.
  • Simona Halep and Paula Badosa have played once before.
  • They met in Madrid in May of this year where Simona Halep easily won 6-3, 6-1.
  • Simona Halep is 15-6 in the fourth round of majors. She is 4-0 at Wimbledon in the fourth round.
  • Paula Badosa is 1-3 in the fourth round of majors.

Paula Badosa has a slightly better serve. She will need to be serving at her best today to have a chance against the former champion. Both players have an excellent mix of defense and power. Simona Halep has the slight edge due to her court coverage but once again this is a very close contest in terms of skill.

Halep has a huge edge in experience. She is used to the stage and has enjoyed success here at Wimbledon, and at all Grand Slams. Paula Badosa is still coming into her own as a top player in the world and has yet to experience and achieve the success of Simona Halep.

Halep did an excellent job of returning Badosa's first serves aggressively in their match in Madrid. Will she be able to duplicate that feat on the quicker courts of Wimbledon? If she is, she has a huge advantage in this match.

Halep vs. Badosa: Betting Pick and Prediction

Following the WTA odds, Our second bet for the Wimbledon match is Simona Halep -3.5 games. This is an excellent style matchup for her against a player who plays quite similarly. Both players are well-rounded, but at this point in their careers, Simona has a slight edge in consistency and a big edge in experience and strategy.

Simona Halep knows how to work her way through matches against all types of players. She is excellent at identifying the weaknesses of her opponents and attacking them throughout the match. Even if Halep's pre-match strategy is not effective, she is quicker to adjust her tactics and point construction to whatever is necessary to get the win.

Paula Badosa is great for the sport of tennis and I expect her to find success at the Grand Slams in the future, but for now, I will go with the veteran player who we can trust in these situations. Badosa also still has a bit of a learning curve to be able to beat the world's best, especially when they are playing in top form like the form that Halep is currently displaying.
