Grass season is here, and there’s nothing more beautiful than a grass court on the first day of a tennis tournament. As the tournament continues, the grass will get chewed up, making the play on the court even faster. Yet that first day, the day when every patch of grass is green, is a beautiful sight to behold.

It also represents a change for the players, as the surface plays the exact opposite of the way they have been playing on the clay. Top players have adapted and the big servers are thriving. Let’s take a look, as the grass season continues, to find more winning tennis picks.

Anna Kalinskaya vs. Belinda Bencic

Wednesday, June 08, 2022 – 06:30 AM EDT at Centre Court

Anna Kalinskaya Breakdown

Anna Kalinskaya is a talented young Russian player who has yet to take that next step. At age 23, the 86th player in the world has all the skills to be a top WTA player, but she has yet to make the leap.

This season, Kalinskaya has a hold percentage of 71.1% and a break percentage of 29.8%. For her career on grass, she has a hold percentage of 59.5% and a break percentage of 17.7%. Kalinskaya is 1-8 in her career on grass

Kalinskaya has won 7 ITF singles titles but has yet to win a tournament at the WTA level. Kalininskaya has played on the tour for 7 years, making her professional debut in 2015.

Kalinskaya’s best result at a Grand Slam was the 2nd round at the US Open. She has qualified for the grass-court Grand Slam Wimbledon twice but has yet to win a match on the grass of the All England Club.

If we are to look at why she has yet to make a mark, Kalinskaya has problems with consistency. Not only in her individual matches but also in her level of play from match to match. Still, it is not too late for the young Russian prodigy, but she will need to up her level of play and level of consistency soon if she wants to have a stellar WTA career.

Belinda Bencic Profile

Belinda Bencic is the 25-year-old Swiss player ranked 17th in the world. Bencic has been on the radar of tennis fans for a while, as she turned pro at the young age of 14 and immediately found success.

Bencic has won 6 singles titles, including an Olympic gold medal. Bencic’s best Grand Slam result was to make the semifinals of the US Open in 2019.

Bencic has hovered around the top 20 for most of her career but has yet to take the next step into being a truly top player. Bencic has continued to put up quality results, however, and looks to be a mainstay on the tour for a long time.

This season, Bencic has a hold percentage of 76.8% and a break percentage of 32.8%. For her career on grass, she has a hold percentage of 76.6% and a break percentage of 31.7%. Bencic is 38-17 in her career on grass

Kalinskaya vs. Bencic | WTA Player Comparison

Let's take a look and see how Belinda Bencic and Anna Kalinskaya matchup:

  • Belinda Bencic is a far more consistent player. Bencic makes fewer unforced errors and is adept at winning points in longer rallies.
  • Anna Kalinskaya hits with more power. Unfortunately, she lacks the consistency that Bencic does and her beautiful winners can be blemished by a spate of unforced errors.
  • Belinda Bencic has the more consistent serve. Bencic can land her serve more often and can be counted on to place a serve where needs are when a game is on the line.
  • Belinda Bencic likes to redirect pace. Oftentimes, Kalinskaya will be working into her hands by dialing up the power. Rather than generate her own power, Bencic loves to use her opponent's power against her.

Anna Kalinskaya vs. Belinda Bencic Betting Pick

Belinda Bencic will win today and the WTA odds definitely reflect that. At -625 on the moneyline, there is absolutely no value on betting Bencic to win the match. However, this correlates to the value of Bencic on the game spread.

Bencic is so likely to win the match, laying five games on a grass court is good value for a player of her talent. Kalinskaya does struggle with inconsistency, and Bencic will exploit that. Bencic should be able to hold serve and win Kalinskaya’s service games enough to cover this spread.

The moneyline is too high, yet the correlated game spread gives us a great opportunity to make another winning wager.

Our best bet for today's Libema Open is Belinda Bencic -5 games available at BMR's top-rated books.
