We are in the round of 16 at the French Open. The players remaining in the draw all have excellent clay-court skills and are in fine form. As the field continues to get stronger, these matches are tougher to handicap.

Nevertheless, the results have been good so far, and I only expect them to get better. Let’s take a look at today’s premier matches to find more winning tennis picks

Holger Rune vs. Hugo Gaston

Saturday, May 28, 2022 – 02:45 PM EDT at Court Phillipe-Chartier

Hugo Gaston Analysis

Hugo Gaston is another French player who seems to be buoyed to a higher level by the support of the French crowd. Hugo Gaston is 21 years old and ranked 74th in the world.

After a pedestrian clay-court swing where he only won one match, Gaston has shown his best level of play this season here at the French Open

Gaston started with a five-set victory over Australian Alex de Minaur, the world's 20th-ranked player. Gaston needed a fifth-set tiebreaker to overcome the Australian but was clutch when it counted in order to get the victory.

He followed that up with a fairly routine victory over the Argentinian Pedro Cachin, who is himself an accomplished clay player. However, Cachin mostly plays challengers, so the idea that Gaston could beat him was not that crazy of an upset, especially at home.

Now he will face his toughest test of the tournament so far against the world number 40, the nineteen-year-old Holger Rune.

ATP Player Profile: Holger Rune

Holger Rune has yet to drop a set here at the French Open. He opened with a straight-set victory over Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who is ranked 15th in the world.

He followed that up with an easy win over Henri Laaksonen, the Swiss veteran player who has plenty of Grand Slam experience. Now he is favored going into today's match against Hugo Gaston and rightfully so.

This will be where the run of Hugo Gaston ends. Holger Rune is a too accomplished a player and is playing too well right now.

Hugo Gaston is a nice ATP player, but he is nowhere near the level of top 10 potential that Rune could achieve. This will be evident today, where even with all the advantages of being at home, Hugo Gaston will not match up to Holger Rune.

Gaston vs. Rune Betting Pick

Our first best bet for today's French Open is Hugo Gaston/Holger Rune under 36 games available on the ATP odds board.

Madison Keys vs. Elena Rybakina

Saturday, May 28, 2022 - 02:45 PM EDT at Court 13

Madison Keys Analysis

Two of the biggest hitters on the WTA tour will face off when Madison Keys takes the court against Elena Rybakina. The 22nd-ranked Madison Keys is a 27-year-old tennis veteran. Keys can dial-up power with the best and she always does her best at Grand Slams.

Keys dropped a set in her first match, but won in straight sets in her second match and is currently peaking at the Grand Slam, as she is known to do. Madison Keys' ability to raise her level of play when the lights are the brightest has been a hallmark of her career.

WTA Player Profile: Elena Rybakina

Elena Rybakina is also a power player. The 22-year-old from Kazakhstan is ranked 16th in the world. Rybakina is known for her stoic demeanor.

Rybakina rarely lets her emotions show on the court, and it's hard to tell if she is feeling rattled or she is ecstatic at the level of her play. Rybakina's steely determination makes it a tough task for opponents to know her outlook on how the match is progressing. It is almost impossible to rattle Rybakina.

Madison Keys has a little more power, and Elena Rybakina has a little more consistency. If Keys is on, she can beat almost anybody, but on the perfect summer evening, her best play is sweet yet elusive.

Keys streakiness is similar to that of other low-margin power players, she sometimes looks brilliant, and at other times she can look inept. Rybakina has more consistency, but can be prone to error-filled matches as well. Whoever brings their best game will come out on top.

Keys vs. Rybakina Betting Pick

With both players able to hold serve even on the slowest of surfaces like that here at Roland Garros, I like this match to go over.

Both Madison Keys and Elena Rybakina have an excellent ability to use their serves to set up easy points and then conversely win on their service games.

This match could very likely go three sets and could even finish featuring three tiebreakers, that's how evenly matched these two players are.

Our second bet for today's French Open is Madison Keys/Elena Rybakina over 21.5 games. For the best WTA odds, check BetOnline, one of BMR's top-rated sportsbooks.
