Iga Swiatek vs. Coco Gauff

Saturday, June 04, 2022 – 06:00 AM EDT at Court Phillipe-Chatrier

WTA Player Analysis: Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek Accomplishments

  • Iga Swiatek has won 34 matches in a row.
  • Swiatek defeated Daria Kasatkina for the fourth time this season. The match started out to be close early, but after being tied at 2-2. Swiatek won 10 of the last 11 games for an easy victory
  • In each of her finals at the WTA level, Swiatek has not dropped a set.
  • Swiatek has won five titles this season.

Iga Swiatek Failures

  • Iga Swiatek has lost only one set during this run at the French Open. She lost the first set tiebreak to Qinwen Zheng but bounced back to win the next 2 sets 6-0, 6-2.
  • Iga Swiatek has a 15-1 record in tournament finals. Her only loss was in 2019 in Lugano, her first professional final ever.

If she's able to get a win today she will have her second French Open title as well as tie Venus Williams for the record of most consecutive match wins this century.

At no point in this tournament has Swiatek ever looked particularly vulnerable. Her level of play is simply a clear cut above the rest of the field. Swiatek is attempting to become the first top seed to win the title at the French Open since Simona Halep four years ago.

If Swiatek wins, it will be the 20th time in the open era the top seed has won the tournament on the WTA side.

Coco Gauff Analysis

Coco Gauff looked dominant as well in her semifinal win. Gauff defeated Martina Trevisan 6-3, 6-1. Trevisan had come into the match on a 10-match winning streak, so Gauff's ability to easily dispatch her opponent was a remarkable feat.

This is now Coco Gauff's best Grand Slam performance. Previously her best Grand Slam result was the quarterfinal here at the French Open last season.

She has continued to improve and it is safe to say that she will be making many more Grand Slam finals before her career is over.

Gauff has not lost a set in this tournament. She has defeated big-name players such as Sloane Stephens, Elise Mertens, and Kaia Kanepi. Gauff has been busy this week; she is also in the doubles semifinal with countrywoman Jessica Pegula.

Coco Gauff Major Accomplishments

  • She became the youngest woman to make a Grand Slam final in 2004 when Maria Sharapova made the final in Wimbledon.
  • She is the youngest Grand Slam finalist at Roland Garros since Kim Clijsters in 2001.
  • She is the first American to make the finals here at Roland Garros without losing a set since Venus Williams in 2002.

Iga Swiatek vs. Coco Gauff Match History

Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek have played twice, with Swiatek winning both times. They played once on clay in a 2021 Rome semifinal, and Swiatek also beat Gauff in Miami this season.

It will take an excellent performance from Gauff to turn this around, given Swiatek's recent success against her.

Both women are coming into the match after achieving many impressive historical feats. Swiatek was dominant in all aspects of the game. Iga had 12 more winners than her opponent. She was also more consistent with 11 fewer unforced errors.

Swiatek vs. Gauff Betting Pick

I like Iga Swiatek to win the title and cover the spread. Her level of play is simply dominating. Coco Gauff is more of a defensive player and Swiatek feasts on players like that.

Swiatek struggles with power players, ones that can push her to the limit, and blast her off the court. Against defensive players, Swiatek has too much time to construct her points perfectly, and go for the winner when need be.

When the match is on Swiatek's racket she rarely fails to come through. This is a perfect style matchup for Swiatek in the final and the draw couldn't have worked out any better for the Polish superstar.

This is going to be another title for Swiatek, whose reign of dominance seems to only be beginning. Our best bet for the French Open Women's Final is Iga Swiatek -6 games (+102) available at BMR's top-rated sportsbooks and betting sites.
