Round three of the Australian Open continues with plenty of tennis action. So far we’ve had a great Australian Open with plenty of winning wagers.
Let’s keep it going with more winning tennis picks!
Clara Tauson vs. Danielle Collins
Friday, January 21, 2022 – 07:00 PM EST at Rod Laver Arena
Clara Tauson has had an excellent start to the 2022 tennis season. Tauson won her first two matches in the prelude to the Australian Open, the Melbourne(Summer Set 2). She then withdrew against Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the third round.
She has got off to a great start here beating the Australian Astra Sharma. After that, came her most impressive feat for the season, as she took out one of the top contenders for the Australian Open title, Anett Kontaveit.
Clara Tauson's win over Anett Kontaveit was not only impressive in who she beat but in the manner in which she won. Clara Tauson was able to score a routine 6-2, 6-4 performance over the Estonian, who is ranked seventh in the world. Clara Tauson is currently 39th in the world but, if she continues playing like this, she will be quickly moving up the rankings.
Danielle Rose Collins did not play much to start the season. She eschewed playing in any Australian warm-up tournament. Her last professional action was in Linz, last November. Danielle Collins has started off the tournament in impressive fashion, however, with a 6-1 6-3 over Caroline Dolehide. She then defeated the Croatian Ana Konjuh 6-4, 6-3.
The win over Konjuh was particularly impressive because she is a talented player returning from an injury. Konjuh has all the skills to be a top-20 player in the WTA. Konjuh had been playing well this season so for Collins to get this victory in only her second match was definitely a notice to the rest of the field that Danielle Collins is in good form.
Collins is a fiery American player who enjoys playing in grueling hot conditions. Collins can hit with power from both sides, but her backhand is particularly impressive. Collins often dominates backhand to backhand rallies with other players. It will be interesting to see how these exchanges go in the match today.
Everybody knows about Danielle Collins’ ability, but I think that Clara Tauson is still flying under the radar. Tauson is still being undervalued and underappreciated by fans and the top sportsbooks alike. Clara Tauson definitely has the ability to become a top-10 player. I like Tauson to get the upset here.
The WTA odds are lucrative for our pick. Tauson is a slight underdog so we will be getting plus money on our wager. Our first bet for Friday night Australian Open action is Clara Tauson to win.
Taylor Fritz vs. Roberto Bautista-Agut
Friday, January 21, 2022 – 10:15 PM EST at Show Court Arena
Taylor Fritz is definitely playing the best tennis of his career right now. After an impressive showing at the ATP Cup, Fritz has dominated his first two matches in the Australian Open. His first-round match was a workmanlike victory over Maximilian Marterer in which he won 7-6, 6-3, 6-2.
He then followed that up with an impressive victory over fellow American Frances Tiafoe. Tiafoe is a strong player who can give problems to all of the top players. For Taylor Fritz to dispatch him 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 and never feel threatened during the match, is cause for the tennis world to take notice. If Fritz continues his current form he could make a push for the top 10 by the end of the season.
Roberto Bautista-Agut is the definition of a grinder. You will never have an easy match let alone even an easy point against Roberto Bautista-Agut. He will fight till the end and has no problems playing in prolonged rallies.
The longer and the more physical the match, the more Roberto Bautista-Agut is comfortable. Bautista-Agut dropped a set in his first-round win over Stefano Travaglia but looked excellent in a second-round win over Philipp Kohlschreiber. It is safe to say that both Taylor Fritz and Roberto Bautista-Agut are coming into this match in good form.
This will be a fun contrast of styles. Taylor Fritz has a big serve and plays typical American power tennis. Roberto Bautista-Agut is more of a defensive player, but he acquits himself on hard court excellently for someone whose style is most suited for clay.
Roberto Bautista-Agut is not afraid of long matches. It will be interesting if he can coax Taylor into his style of play, or if Taylor Fritz will impose his desire for shorter points. If Fritz is able to make a leap into the top 10, these are the types of matches he's going to need to win.
I am very excited about Taylor Fritz's potential and prospects for success this season. Yet in this match, I am going to go with the veteran workhorse Roberto Bautista-Agut, who's getting a good price in the ATP odds.
Roberto Bautista-Agut is a step above the players that Fritz has been dominating lately, and I think he will be able to impose his playing style on Taylor Fritz. Our second bet for today is Roberto Bautista-Agut ML.
ATP Pick: Roberto Bautista-Agut to Win ML (-112) at Bovada
