Victoria Azarenka is nearing the end of her tennis career. At age 33, she probably has only one or two more seasons to be able to play at the top level. However, she is still playing excellent tennis, and she is a fan favorite in the WTA.
She opened the tournament with a win over former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and followed that up with a win over Argentinian Nadia Podoroska. Azarenka was absolutely dominant in her win over Podoroska winning 6-1, 6-0. It is safe to say that she comes into this match in good form.
Madison Keys made the semifinals of the Australian Open last year. Her powerful style plays well on the quick courts here in Australia. She is also in great form to start the tournament, coming on a five-match winning streak, all at the United Cup. Keys has racked up two solid wins in the first two rounds and has looked fantastic, blistering forehands past her opponents.
Will History Repeat Itself?
Madison Keys and Victoria Azarenka played each other three times. Azarenka has come out on top in all three matches. The first was in 2018 in Miami where Madison Keys withdrew in the second set with an injury. Azarenka defeated Keys in straight sets in the French Open in 2021. That is a completely opposite surface of what they are playing on today and is not very predictive of today's results.
Azarenka prevailed when the two met in Guadalajara last October. This was a close match where Azarenka was able to pull ahead at the end. This match was recent, on a similar surface, and should give Azarenka confidence coming into the match.

Keys always plays her best at the Grand Slams, and she is in much better form than she was when the two met in October. Both men are hard hitters with strong defensive abilities. This match should be a battle of consistency. There will be plenty of long rallies, and the man who is able to endure and win these crucial points will be the one to be the victor.

I love the form that Frances Tiafoe has shown going into this match. Tiafoe has gotten better and better each season. It is obvious how much he's worked on his game, and his mental approach to the game is stronger as well. He has been clutch in big moments against the best players.

I think his quickness and defensive ability will allow him to keep more balls in play and outlast his Russian opponent.
