The ATP and WTA both have smaller events this week, but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be great tennis played and great opportunities to make winning wagers. Players will be vying for valuable ranking points that will help them avoid qualifying for major events next season. Which player should we back to make winning tennis picks?

Peter Gojowczyk vs. Marcos Giron

Monday, November 08, 2021 – 08:00 AM EDT at Center Court

Peter Gojowczyk is on a 4 match losing streak. He failed to qualify in the Paris event falling to Jenson Brooksby. His last win however was against his opponent today, Marcos Giron. Both Giron and Gojowczyk are 33-24 on the year. Gojowczyk is 16-10 on indoor hard courts this season. Gojowczyk has not been playing well lately, and one has to wonder if the grind of the long season has worn down the 32-year-old.

Marcos Giron has improved his form since his loss to Gojowczyk. Since the loss, he has rattled off four wins in a row before falling short against Casper Ruud in the ATP Paris round of 16. Giron is 11-6 this season on indoor hard courts. Giron seems to be finding his form on the hard courts and this bodes well for success here this week on the hard courts of Stockholm.

The surface plays a little quicker than Paris. This should play to Giron’s advantage as well. Giron has a strong flat backhand that can put Gojowczyk to the test. These baseline rallies should be interesting and entertaining.

I believe that Giron can get the victory here, but rather than laying the game spread with Giron, we will play the under 22.5. This will provide us a hedge if it is the case that Gojowczyk simply has Giron’s number, regardless of their current form. While I favor Giron to get the victory, I believe that whoever wins will win in straight sets. The first play for ATP Stockholm is Giron under 22.5 games.

Oceane Dodin vs. Greetje Minnen

Monday, November 08, 2021 - 11:15 AM EDT at Centre Court

The WTA event in Linz is on an indoor hard court as well. The indoor hard court is where Oceane Dodin thrives. Dodin is coming off an ITF W60 tournament Final appearance in Nantes, France. Dodin was forced to withdraw after losing a first-set tiebreak. If it were not for the withdrawal, I believe the WTA odds in this match would be much higher in Dodin’s favor. Dodin is 37-29 on the year and 13-8 on hard courts, her best record on any surface.

Dodin’s big serve plays as well indoors where it is harder for opponents to take advantage of her relative lack of quickness compared to the other players on the WTA tour. The indoor surface accentuates Dodin’s power game. If she is in full health we will see that on display today.

Greetje Minnen is 34-23 on the year and 3-3 on indoor hard courts. She most recently played at the Billie Jean King Cup, where she split two matches on the indoor hard courts. Her most recent match was a three-set loss to the Australian Daria Gavrilova.

Minnen is attempting to transition from a doubles specialist to a singles star, much in the same vein that Barbora Krejcikova did this season. Minnen has had mixed success making the transition and is still probably at least a year of development away before she’s able to make major strides on the WTA tour. Minnen has a nice all-court game but it is better suited for the outdoor hard courts or grass.

This match should be an excellent contrast of styles with Dodin’s powerful serve-oriented game matching up with Minnen’s more well-rounded game and physical quickness. This will allow Minnen to put Dodin to the test defensively. Minnen will challenge Dodin’s consistency. If Dodin is able to overcome Minnen’s defense and avoid unnecessary unforced errors, she will be the victor. If Minnen is able to frustrate Dodin, she will be the winner.

If Dodin is at full health, she should get the victory on her surface of preference. Of course, we do have to worry about fitness here. With all things being considered, if she starts the match she should be in strong enough form to get the victory. I like Dodin to get the win and continue her success on the indoor hard courts.
