The Derby of Italy and the Derby of the South fueling a marvelous Serie A matchday 9: Inter-Juventus is always the most vibrant game of the year, at least on the eve of it, but this time it could prove costly and very painful for the loser; Roma-Napoli will be unique as the hosts attempt to deny a historical record for the current leaders. Let’s get into the Serie A odds for this matchday.

Inter Milano vs. Juventus Turin

Sunday, October 24, 2021 – 02:45 PM EDT at San Siro

Inter is 3rd in the standings, three points ahead of Juventus, but the outlook of both couldn't be more different: Inter is improving their playing as each game goes by. The only problem seems to be in their apparent lack of determination to pursue the win until the end after losing key players during the last offseason, Lukaku, Hakimi, and Conte.

On the other hand, Juventus had no self-esteem at all in their first couple of games, so Allegri realized he had to work in making defense more solid, therefore protecting the team as they are focused on conceding nothing at all. The result? Now, Juve plays super ugly, but they have racked up six wins in a row, although as expected, four of them with a 1-nil score.

Practical beyond any shame, Allegri realized that couldn't play otherwise with a very complicated schedule ahead. This could result in Allegri being more pragmatic and favoring a slow-paced style and we might even see a couple of surprises in the starting lineup, as he could rest some players for fixtures against easier opponents and guarantee the points.

The Champions fixture left them both with more confidence, especially for Inter who probably needed it the most after losing 3-1 to a Lazio squad that finished the game with 10 players on the pitch. Meanwhile, Juve will have to cope with one day less of rest after a complicated trip to St.Petersburg.

Inter will play with their best XI although Calhanoglu, still not fit, could be replaced by Arturo Vidal who's been in good form. As for Juve, they have yet to recover Paulo Dybala, who's still nursing an injury but has recovered all the other injured players. Classic 3-5-2 for Simone Inzaghi, and basic but efficient 4-4-2 for Allegri with Chiesa, once again, as forward and noting his usual winger position.

Inter are creating chances consistently and aren't shy to own the game, but they lack balance when they lose the ball, and the central midfielders struggle to backtrack during counterattacks. Meanwhile, Juve is having a hard time getting anywhere close to the goal, but they won't leave any gaps in the back and will wait patiently for the right opportunity to counter. These two styles could end up canceling each other out.

AS Roma vs. SSC Napoli

Sunday, October 24, 2021 - 02:45 PM EDT at Stadio Olimpico

Napoli has equaled their club record of eight consecutive wins to start the season: 8 just like back with manager Maurizio Sarri.

They have raised their level in each game, and although they have been lucky too, they don't take many risks and have proved to have a particular determination in pursuing the win until the end.

Roma lost to Lazio and Juventus and another defeat in a big match could start to put pressure on Jose Mourinho:

They have given too many chances to their opponents, and surely this time around Mou will be careful to not be surprised by Napoli. He won't allow gaps when playing on transitions.

Sportiva Salernitana vs. FC Empoli

Saturday, October 23, 2021 - 09:00 AM EDT at Stadio Arechi

The image of the Salernitana manager alone, on the Salerno pier, watching the sunset after getting sacked by the team that he helped bring up to Serie A after 20 years, was heartbreaking. But this is football and while Empoli plays confidently, Salernitana will have an immediate boost from hiring Stefano Colantuono, a manager who had decent results at Atalanta, Palermo and Udinese before.

This stadium has a very warm atmosphere, plus Salernitana was already close to getting the result last week on the road, at Spezia so let's back them for our last Serie A pick.
