Premier League Banker of The Week: Norwich vs. Arsenal

Although we have 9 of the 10 games this weekend taking day on boxing day, we struggled to find some value in this week’s upcoming fixtures. The top-rated sportsbooks have these lines right on point. The best value we considered for our soccer picks was in the Norwich and Arsenal fixture. What better way to start your second day of Christmas than sitting down by the fire, fixing a nice drink, and tuning into the Premier League.

Norwich City FC vs. Arsenal FC

Sunday, December 26, 2021 – 10:00 AM EST at Carrow Road

Norwich Dead Last

It’s been a struggle this season for the canaries. Although they somewhat comfortably gained promotion last season, their time in the topflight has been a struggle. They have only managed to score a total of 7 goals in 19 Premier League games and conceded an eye soaring 34 times, the third most amount in the league.

In terms of total goals, they have scored the least amount in the league by a lot; second least Burnley has a total of 6 more goals than them. Norwich has been historically bad against the Gunners, having seen them lose 7 of the previous 10 meetings, winning once back in 2012 and drawing twice.

Unfortunately, there’s not much more to say about this team, there is no backbone or flair to them, a mix of players on their way up and on their way down, along with a lack of motivation and some poor performances have made this the worst team in the league both in terms of stats and rankings.

Arsenal Looking to Improve Away Form

This Norwich team is really going to be on the back foot against Arsenal. I mean, the Gunners are starting to lay some good soccer right now and are quietly improving and sneaking up the league table sitting in 4th place. A win on the road would be welcomed greatly as this Arsenal squad has struggled away from home, only picking up 10 points from a possible 27, not exactly top 4 form.

Their xG away from home has been very poor, allowing a league-high 2.09 xG per game on the road. This is concerning, however coming up against the lowest scorers in the league won’t bother Arsenal, who will be very confident they can outscore the Canaries in this one, and most likely a shut out too.

Arsenal is on a hot run right now having won 4 of their previous 5 and that one loss was a shock 2-1 loss to Everton, who are in the depths of despair this season in 14th place. Arsenal has scored 15 goals in their previous 5 outings, their strikers are in top form right now, and midfielder Emile Smith Rowe has scored 3 goals in his previous 5 games.

20-year-old Martinelli has started to show the fans that he could potentially be their star player in the next year or two. He has scored 4 and assisted 2 in just 11 games, compared to his first 28 games where he notched up 5 goals and 1 assist.

Norwich vs. Arsenal Pick

Given both these teams' run of form heading into this game, you would have to be a fool to believe Norwich can pull off an upset here. Of course, anything can happen in sports and we are not saying Norwich can’t win, but pre-game analysis, there is no arguable point to be made that can convince us that they can win this game. At best, they will earn a draw.

Arsenal will be hoping to pick up a rare win on the road against the worst team in the league and we are confident they can do so at a handicap of -1.5 goals for +120 at the Premier League odds.

The Gunners should be able to score at least twice, even three or four times if they're feeling it and Norwich are dropping their heads. Although they allow the most xG away from home, we don’t see this as too much of a negative against this Norwich team attacking power.

In the worst-case scenario, we see Arsenal winning 3-1, the only concern here is Arsenal tends to have blip games where they don’t turn up at all, just like the game against Everton a few weeks back, let hope they are tuned in on Sunday.
