The last round of MLS action served up some surprising results, proving just how unpredictable the MLS can be from week to week.

To name a few of the most significant outcomes: Philadelphia Union settled on a draw to lowly Inter Miami at home, the woeful Vancouver Whitecaps served up a win over Dallas FC at home, and the Seattle Sounders upset the Houston Dynamo on the away during the midweek soccer betting plate

This week it’s a quick turnaround with a full weekend of MLS action on the slate at the sportsbook exchange. Without too much fuss or preamble, we dive into our selections for this week’s installment of the MLS best bets

FC Cincinnati vs. New England Revolution

Saturday, May 21, 2022 – 06:00 PM EDT at TQL Stadium

Cincinnati FC Performance Recap

Cincinnati FC hits its stride as the MLS season heats up. Cincy sits pretty in sixth place in the Eastern Conference rankings with a 6-1-5 mark and 19 points, riding a run of positive form into the weekend.

Chris Albright’s side is playing better than many expected they would this season, but the question is whether they can keep up this tempo. Past versions of this team has either lost steam or crumbled under pressure.

In Cincy’s last outing, they defeated Chicago Fire 2-1 at Soldier Field. It marked their fourth win in a row and third straight away win. Cincy are 10th in the league on points per game.

New England Performance Recap

New England Revolution are undefeated in their last four games with a 2-2-0 (W-D-L) record. Overall, the Revolution rank 11th in the Eastern Conference table with a 3-3-5 record and 12 points through 11 fixtures.

Bruce Arena’s side picked up a point in its last outing, settling on a 2-2 draw on the away with Austin FC. In their last six games, the Revs boast three wins, two draws, and one loss.

The Revs appear to be recovering from a slow start to the season, which was hindered by injuries. Adam Buksa with eight goals in his last six games and Carles Gil with six assists in his last five games are thriving right now.

Cincinnati vs. New England Betting Verdict

The market on this game is most interesting as the majority of sportsbooks and betting sites corner this game with the Revs, despite their lowly standing. Books clearly believe that this team is better than the sum total of its results so far.

Cincy is priced as the home underdog with odds as high as +210 at the MLS odds board. New England is favored, albeit with odds on the plus side of even money.

The Revs have beaten Cincy soundly in their last three meetings, outscoring them 10-2 during this span. Those past successes underscore this market, but so too does their perceptible improvement in recent weeks.

New York City FC vs. Chicago Fire

Sunday, May 22, 2022 – 05:00 PM EDT at Citi Field

New York City FC Performance Recap

New York City FC’s campaign got off to a bumpy start, but they quickly ironed out the kinks and are now playing at the high level many predicted they would. In fact, NYCFC were among the top betting favorites to win the MLS season in MLS futures markets.

The Cityzens are second in the Eastern Conference with a 6-2-3 record and 20 points. Only a point separates NYCFC from Philadelphia Union at the top of the table.

NYCFC boast a 5-1-0 record in their last six games – the only misstep was a scoreless draw to Sporting Kansas City at home on May 8. This week, NYCFC reeled off back-to-back wins, beating Columbus Crew 2-0 on Sunday and then DC United 2-0 on Wednesday.

Chicago Fire Performance Recap

The Chicago Fire are struggling of late. Five losses and two draws in their last seven fixtures have seen the Fire drop into the pit of the Eastern Conference table with a 2-5-5 record and 11 points through 12 fixtures.

The last victory Ezra Hendrickson’s side picked up was back in March, when they beat Sporting KC 3-1 (Mar.19). At the weekend, Chicago lost to Cincy 2-1 at home, but they faced a quick turnaround with a midweek date against the New York Red Bulls. Chicago picked up a rare point in that outing after holding the Red Bulls to a 3-3 draw.

NYCFC vs. Chicago Betting Pick

This is a clash between two sides headed in opposite directions. NYCFC is eying the top spot in the Eastern Conference and a win over Chicago could propel them into the coveted position.

Chicago, on the other hand, is desperate to get its season on track. They’re propping up the conference table and things appear to be in dire straits.

As such, the soccer betting market for this conference showdown isn’t surprising at all. NYCFC is quite rightly favored to win. Colour the world shocked if Chicago pulls off the upset or takes a point off the hosts.
