The MLS season is a third of the way into the 2022 campaign and we are beginning to see some separation in the conference tables between the upper echelon and lower echelon teams.

Philadelphia Union rides roughshod over the Eastern Conference with 19 points while the New York Red Bulls (18), Montreal Impact (17), and Orlando City (17) nip at their heels. At the bottom of the table, Chicago Fire and Inter Miami prop up the table with 10 points apiece.

Over in the Western Conference,  Los Angeles FC are in the driver’s seat with 23 points, three points ahead of their nearest rivals Austin FC. LA Galaxy and Dallas aren’t too far behind with 19 points apiece. At the bottom of the table, the Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Canucks hold the fort with 7 points apiece.

Toronto FC vs. Orlando City SC

Saturday, May 14, 2022 – 03:00 PM EDT at BMO Field

Toronto FC

Toronto FC are faced with a big ask against Orlando City, even though the Reds have a home advantage for this fixture. Toronto ranks 12th in the Eastern Conference behind a 3-2-6 mark and 11 points.

Head coach Bob Bradley’s side is currently mired in a four-game losing streak. This includes heavy losses both home and away. They lost a nine-goal thriller at New York City and then back-to-back fixtures against Cincinnati (home and away).

Toronto recently succumbed to a 1-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps on the away. Losing to the subpar Whitecaps can’t have done anything for their confidence at all.

Orlando City

Orlando City are flying high in the Eastern Conference table, ranked fourth overall with a 5-2-4 mark and 17 points. They’re merely two points adrift of conference leaders, Philadelphia Union. In fact, the Lions are flush off a signature win over Philadelphia Union. dealing them a 2-1 loss in midweek US Open Cup action.

If there’s one knockback against the Lions, it’s that their home form is decidedly better than their road form lately. Orlando’s record on the road so far is 3-0-3 with nine points out of a potential 18 points collected.

The Pick

Bookmakers have rolled out a coy soccer betting line for this matchup with both Toronto and Orlando City priced in plus money. This sort of a tight market clearly implies that the win is a right tossup. It also might suggest there is value in backing the draw.

That being said, in this particular case, Orlando City practically leaps off the page as the value play. They’re in a better place overall, enjoying good form right now and, as a result, primed to capitalize on the slump that Toronto, unfortunately, finds itself in.

Chicago Fire vs. FC Cincinnati

Saturday, May 14, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Soldier Field

Chicago Fire

Chicago Fire will be looking to bounce back from the doldrums, but a date against an in-form FC Cincinnati this weekend could be trickier than the soccer odds would have it.

Chicago ranks 14th in the Eastern Conference behind a 2-4-4 mark and 10 points through matches. They’re tied with Inter Miami as the conference stragglers going into matchday 11.

Ezra Hendrickson’s side is coming off a disappointing 4-1 loss to Atlanta United at the Mercedes-Benz stadium. They were thoroughly outplayed, outshot, and outmuscled over the course of the 90 minutes. The defeat marked their fourth straight loss overall.

Neither home form nor away form is providing any reprieve for the Fire men in Red. They’re 1-3-1 at home and 1-1-3 on the away.

FC Cincinnati

FC Cincinnati’s campaign is off to a positive start at they’re sitting pretty in fifth place in the Eastern Conference table, right in the thick of the race for playoff spots.

The Orange and Blue are riding a three-game winning streak in MLS, capped off by a 1-0 win over Minnesota United on the away. They improved to a 2-2-1 record on their travels, taking eight points out of a potential 15.

Cincinnati did suffer a setback in midweek US Open Cup action as it lost to New England 1-0, so it remains to be seen whether that will have any impact on their performance this weekend. That said, one has to consider the Fire are ripe for the taking.

The Pick

Somewhat surprisingly, Cincinnati’s odds are massive ahead of this game. They’re big underdogs across top-rated sportsbooks platforms to take the win. That market outlook, however, represents a value flutter given the contrasting fortunes of both these sides.
