Olympique de Marseille vs. RC Strasbourg Alsace

Saturday, May 21, 2022 – 03:00 PM EDT at Orange Vélodrome

Marseille Analysis

Matchday 38 in France’s top-flight league will be defining. Third-ranked Marseille is tied with second-placed Monaco in the table, both sides sporting 68 points.

If the season ended today, Monaco would be guaranteed a place in next season’s Champions League while Marseille would be forced to qualify for a Champions League spot.

Second place was in the bag for Les Phocéens ahead of matchday 37, but they leaked valuable points after succumbing to the 2-0 loss to Rennes on the away last weekend. The defeat ended a two-game unbeaten run and saw Marseille drop to a 20-8-9 mark and 68 points.

Strasbourg Analysis

Strasbourg ranks fifth in the Ligue 1 table with a 17-12-8 mark and 63 points. They’re level on points with sixth-placed Nice, two points behind fourth-placed Rennes, and five points behind Marseille.

Strasbourg’s position puts them in the race for one of the coveted European spots reserved for the league’s top five teams – a fourth-place finish would propel them into Europa League while a fifth-place finish would seal a place in the Conference League qualifiers.

Strasbourg is coming off a 1-0 win over Clermont, extending their solid run of form down the stretch to three straight fixtures. Les Bleu et Blanc are unbeaten in three (two wins and a draw) and they are 3-1-1 in their last five matches. The lone hiccup was a 1-0 loss to Lille.

Marseille vs. Strasbourg: Betting Pick and Prediction

It goes without saying, Marseille and Strasbourg will have plenty of motivation to win this Saturday. By the Ligue 1 odds, the balance tips towards the hosts on the moneyline, albeit hovering just above evens in plus money. The best current price available is +117, which is available with Heritage Sports (visit our Heritage Sports Review).

Strasbourg must play spoiler when they descend on Marseille at the Orange Vélodrome if they hope to better their final landing spot. They’ve struggled against Marseille in the past, failing to clinch a win in their last 12 meetings (0-5-7).

Thus, Strasbourg is the heavy underdogs at +250 with BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review) and a win over Marseille this weekend would mark a massive upset.

Stade de Reims vs. OGC Nice

Saturday, May 21, 2022 - 03:00 PM EDT at Stade Auguste-Delaune

Reims Analysis

Stade Reims ranks 12th in the league table with an 11-13-13 record through 37 matches and 48 points. Their middling position brings precious comfort and security, knowing that their return to top-flight action next season is guaranteed.

In their last outing, Reims defeated relegation-threatened St. Etienne 2-1. It marked their second-straight away win and third win in their last five fixtures. Les Rouges et Blancs are 3-0-2 in their last five fixtures.

Nice Analysis

Nice fell out of the Top-5 frame following a costly loss to Lille on matchday 37, slipping to a 19-7-11 record and 63 points. Although Les Aiglons are level on points with Strasbourg, Les Bleu et Blanc are ahead thanks to a better goal differential.

Christophe Galtier’s side has one last chance to climb back into the Top 5 and seal their place in the Conference League qualifiers next season. A spot in Europa League is also still in play because Nice trails fourth-placed Rennes by two points.

Reims vs. Nice: Betting Pick and Prediction

The hosts have little to play for in this match and that fact appears to be reflected in the corresponding top sportsbooks and betting sites. Reims is the massive home underdogs, trading upwards of +300 with multiple bookmakers -- BetOnline tips Reims as the +310 underdogs.

Nice, in the meanwhile, are trading as the firm favorites with odds ranging between -114 and -120, depending on the choice online sportsbook. They’ll be motivated to take the win, all while praying their rivals, Les Bleu et Blanc, will slip up at the same time against third-placed Marseille on Saturday.
