The penultimate round of Ligue 1 is set to get underway this weekend as many spots are still to be decided in the upper and lower echelons of the table.

We look at some of the key matchups slated for matchday 37 of France’s top-flight league, scrutinize the Ligue 1 odds, and deliver a betting verdict.

OGC Nice vs. LOSC Lille

Saturday, May 14, 2022 – 03:00 PM EDT at Allianz Riviera

Nice: Form and Analysis

Nice welcomes Lille to the Allianz Riviera for a pivotal top half of the table showdown with far-reaching implications for the hosts.

Les Aiglons are sat pretty in fourth place in the Ligue 1 table behind a 19-7-10 mark and 63 points through 36 matches. They’re gunning for one of the Champions League spots that are up for grabs and, as things stand, they’re in the mix.

Nice is five points behind second-placed Marseille (68 points). Whereas third-placed Monaco are merely two points ahead and fifth-placed Rennais, on the fringe of European spots, are just a point behind.

Christophe Galtier’s side is coming off a win over relegation-threatened St. Etienne, taking all three points in the 4-2 win at the Allianz Riviera. The win improves Nice’s record at home to 10-4-4.

Lille: Form and Analysis

Lille’s title defense campaign has fallen short of the mark, but Les Dogues will be keen to cap their topsy-turvy season on a positive note. The last time they faced Nice, though, they came away 4-0 losers at home.

Lille ranks tenth in the table with a 13-12-11 mark and 51 points through 36 matches. They’re coming off a 2-1 loss to Monaco at home, their second straight defeat, and fourth overall in their last five domestic fixtures. The lone bright spot was a 1-0 win over Strasbourg on April 24.

Nice vs. Lille: Odds and Pick

Top-rated sportsbooks are firmly in the hosts’ camp, thanks to their positive form, encouraging head-to-head record over Lille and home-field advantage.

Lille, by contrast, is a massive underdog – a function of their poor recent form and struggles on the away. Les Dogues’ last away win was on March 19 against Nantes (1-0) and their last positive away result was on April 10 against Angers (1-1).

Stade Rennais FC vs. Olympique de Marseille

Saturday, May 14, 2022 - 03:00 PM EDT at Roazhon Park

Stade Rennais: Form and Analysis

A blockbuster showdown between Stade Rennais and Olympique Marseille is on the soccer betting cards this weekend as the top-tier pair jockeys for positioning inside the league’s top five.

Stade Rennais is sitting on the edge of European spots, in fifth place with a 19-5-12 mark and 62 points through 36 fixtures. Only a point separates Rennais from their nearest rivals Nice. Second-placed Marseille is six points ahead behind a 20-8-8 mark and 68 points.

Rennais’ Champions League hopes were dealt a blow last weekend as Les Rouge et Noir fell down the table from third to fifth place following a 2-1 loss to Nantes on the away.

Marseille: Form and Analysis

Marseille’s bid to cement second place in the table was boosted following a 3-0 win over Lorient on the away last weekend. The three points maintained Les Phocéens’ position and three-point advantage over their nearest rivals.

Now, with only two matches left these two sides will be motivated to cement their places in next season’s European competition.

Stade Rennais vs. Marseille: Odds and Pick

Marseille got the better of Rennais 2-0 in the last Ligue 1 meeting. Technically, Les Phocéens need only a point to clinch and that makes a bet on the draw tempting here. That said, with Rennais playing for the win, Marseille won’t be taking any chances.

AS Saint-Etienne vs. Stade de Reims

Saturday, May 14, 2022 - 03:00 PM EDT at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard

St. Etienne: Form and Analysis

St. Etienne’s bid to stave off relegation hit a snag last weekend following a third straight defeat in Ligue 1. Les Verts lost to Nice 4-2 on the away and as a result, they slipped to a 7-10-19 record and 31 points to remain in 18th place.

The schedule hasn’t been kind to Pascal Dupraz’s side down the stretch with three straight fixtures against top-five Ligue 1 clubs. It really isn’t surprising that all those resulted in losses – Monaco (4-1), Rennais (2-0), and Nice (4-2).

Reims: Form and Analysis

Reims ranks 12th in the table with a 10-13-13 record and 43 points. They’re assured of a return to Ligue 1 next season by virtue of their middling position. This means Reims has little to play for down the stretch.

Les Rouges et Blancs have taken the measure of Les Verts in recent meetings, winning three and drawing two of their last five fixtures. This includes a 2-0 win over St. Etienne earlier this season.

St. Etienne vs Reims: Odds and Pick

In spite of Reims’s positive record against St. Etienne, it’s the hosts that emerge as the favorites across multiple top-rated sportsbooks for our soccer picks.

Les Verts are desperate to take all three points and with their first potentially winnable matchup in over a month, this is an opportunity that they can’t let slip through their fingers.
