Group F is far from finished and although Canada is officially knocked out of the tournament, they still have a lot to play for as they seek their nation’s first-ever World Cup victory.
Elsewhere, Belgium, Croatia, and Morocco are in a three-way fight to stay in the competition, here are our favorite World Cup picks for group F’s matchday three.
Morocco vs. Canada
Thursday, December 1, 2022 – 10:00 AM EST at Al Thumama Stadium
Canada has shown us during this World Cup that they are a much-improved nation when it comes to playing against the best. We would consider them to be a little unlucky to have only scored one goal by now and be out of the World Cup.
Canada is co-hosting the 2026 World Cup and we are expecting their team to improve even further by then, they could be in with a genuine chance of making it deep into the competition in 2026 if they keep improving. If Canada can beat Morocco here it would be a solid statement that they mean business in 2026, because Morocco has a quality team.
Morocco earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Croatia and then beat Belgium 2-0. The African team has been in strong form over the previous three years winning 31 games, a further 8 more ended as a tie and they suffered just 3 losses. A tie will see Morocco guaranteed progress into the last 16, whilst a win would secure the top spot. This World Cup matchup will be worth watching.
Pick and Prediction
You would think with Morocco only needing a tie and Canada proving they aren’t exactly a goal-scoring threat that we would be on the under, but it’s not the case.
Canada comes into this game with a nothing-to-lose mentality, they can be let off the leash and we see them scoring at least once, Morocco is very dangerous going forward with the likes of Seville’s Youssef En Nesyri and Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech bolting forward.
Although we are predicting a 2-1 Morocco victory, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a 2-2 or even a Canadian 2-1 victory.
Predicted Score: Canada 1 - Morocco 2
Belgium vs. Croatia
Thursday, December 1, 2022 - 10:00 AM EST at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium
It’s very possible we are about to lose the 2018 World Cup runners-up (Croatia) or the 2018 World Cup third-place team (Belgium). The only way both teams can make the final 16 is if Belgium wins and Canada beats Morocco. Another route for the Belgians is if they tie and Canada wins by 3+ goals, which is highly unlikely.
So far, we wouldn’t say Belgium is deserving of a place in the final 16. Belgium scrapped past the Canadians 1-0 and suffered a 2-0 loss to Morocco. Manager Roberto Martinez's tactics are too conservative for a team of this quality and after their loss to Morocco, there were even riots on the street back home in Antwerp.
Pick and Prediction
This game is going to have a very tense atmosphere, Belgium needs a win, and Croatia will settle for a tie, but only if Morocco wins. There are a lot of ways this could go down so it’s best for both teams to play this cautiously and for that reason we are loving the under 2.5 goals in this spot.
We wouldn’t be surprised to see this game be 0-0 come the 70th minute and then we start to see the game open up, even in the case either team scores early, they’re going to “park the bus” in front of the net. A low-scoring edgy European affair is set to go down in Qatar.
In terms of value, we like -120 for under 2.5 goals here and would play this as low as -130 in the best World Cup sportsbooks. If you want to take a different approach and look for some plus money, we also like the correct score at halftime to be 0-0 at World Cup odds of +175 with BetOnline.
