Denmark and Australia will battle it out in a winner-takes-all game, whilst France looks to keep the winning streak going in the final group stage clash against Tunisia. France has already topped the group and will likely rest some players.
Check out our World Cup picks ahead of the final group stage games.
Australia vs. Denmark
Wednesday, November 30, 2022 – 10:00 AM EST at Al Janoub Stadium
Coming as outsiders who were heavily fancied pre-tournament, Denmark now needs a win over Australia if they wish to advance to the final 16. Interestingly these two teams met at the 2018 World Cup group stage where the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Despite beating France on two occasions in the Nations League, Denmark was unable to repeat the feat last time out in a 2-1 loss to France. Having gone 1-0 down they had enough strength to come back and tie the game at 1-1 but the quality of France shone through with a defeat on the cards for Denmark.
Australia picked up a 1-0 win over Tunisia (a game which saw a whopping 62 throw-ins) on matchday two in what was their first World Cup clean sheet since 1974 and it also marked their first win since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Australia comes into this game knowing another tie against Denmark will likely see them into the last 16 as France shouldn’t find too much trouble in not losing to Tunisia at the very least.
Pick and Prediction
Since their previous World Cup meeting Denmark has advanced further up the FIFA World rankings leader board whilst Australia has gone in the opposite direction and dropped two places.
Australia put up a solid display against both France and Tunisia but this Denmark team has a lot of quality and experience and is one of the best teams at getting a job done in a calm and cool manner. Denmark will try to take the sting out of the game which will suit them.
It’s not that we don’t believe Australia is any good, but we feel Denmark is slightly too good for them and -105 seems like a very fair set of World Cup odds for the Dans to win and less than 4 match goals to be scored.
Tunisia vs. France
Wednesday, November 30, 2022 – 10:00 AM EDT at Education City Stadium
Tunisia has failed to score at this year’s World Cup, which is not a good sign when facing a team as strong as France. The Tunisians need to win and hope for a Denmark and Australia tie in order to advance into the last 16, which really does seem like an impossible task.
Although Tunisia can still advance if they and Denmark win, they will need to do so by a bigger goal margin, which again seems very unlikely. It will have been a poor World Cup in their eyes as they will have felt they had the beatings of Australia at the very least.
France broke an old trend by making it into the last 16 as they became the first European nation to lift the trophy and make it out of the group stage at the next World Cup. Interestingly, it’s been a trend they started back in the 2002 World Cup.
Pick and Prediction
France should score at least twice on this Tunisian team who should throw men forward at some stage in this game. Although we are laying -135 juice here, we really can’t see how France doesn’t score at least two goals.
We even believe the French team total of over 2.5 at -110 should cash but to play it safe we are laying the extra juice as this French team can be very “lazy” when it comes to scoring and they don’t necessarily have to.
Following the World Cup sportsbooks, France over 1.5 team total goals is our favorite pick in this matchup, as we predict France to win 3-0 or at the very least 2-1.
Predicted Score: Tunisia 0 – France 3
