Ecuador vs. Senegal

Tuesday, November 29, 2022 – 10:00 AM EST at Khalifa International Stadium

Preview

It's a winner-takes-all in this Senegal and Ecuador World Cup Group A game, although Ecuador does hold an advantage as a tie will see them through, Senegal needs all three points.

Both teams come into this game having beaten hosts Qatar, but Ecuador managed a 1-1 tie against the Netherlands whilst Senegal suffered a 2-0 loss to the Dutch.

Enner Valencia has been in the form of his life at this World Cup having bagged all three of Ecuador’s World Cup goals. He remains questionable for this game, meaning we could see a very defensive display from Ecuador in hopes of a tie game if they are missing their star striker.

Senegal’s only ever World Cup advancement from the group Stage was back in the 2002 World Cup when now-head-coach Aliou Cisse was captain. Interestingly, no African team has made it past the quarter-finals, and in the previous World Cup, no African nation advanced out of the group stage. Let's hope that changes in Qatar.

Pick and Prediction

  • Full-Time Result: Draw

As we stated Ecuador only needs a tie to advance. They shouldn’t be too adventurous going forward (especially if they are without Enner Valencia) and should have the defensive ability to keep Senegal quiet.

The African nation has a strong backline and two very capable forwards in Ismaila Sarr and Boulaye Dia, but their midfield can be a bit weak and that’s where Ecuador might control the game. Despite scoring 3 past Qatar, Senegal only had 0.75 xG.

This should be a simple case of both teams canceling each other out and a 0-0 or 1-1 scoreline seems very likely here, so a tie is our soccer pick at +240. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could bet a 0-0 or 1-1 correct score for +650.

Predicted Score: Ecuador 1 – Senegal 1

Qatar vs. Netherlands

Tuesday, November 29, 2022 – 10:00 AM EST at Al Bayt Stadium

Preview

Qatar already holds the record for the worst record of any host in the 92-year history of the World Cup and they could be about to set another unwanted record in this final group game. If Qatar loses, they will become the first hosts ever to lose all three group games.

Mohammed Muntari became Qatar’s first-ever World Cup goalscorer after he scored a consolation goal during their 3-1 loss to Senegal.

Although the Dutch only need one point to advance, coach Louis Van Gaal is looking for his team to improve their game in this match as they didn’t look very convincing in their 2-0 win over Senegal. In fact, many would say they didn’t deserve all three points. The 1-1 tie against Ecuador cemented the fact they were not in good form. This is their chance to get things right and take that form into the round of 16.

The Netherlands lost just once in their previous 15 games so they shouldn’t have any problems beating this Qatar team which is likely to seal the host nation's faith as the worst hosts in World Cup history by losing all three games.

Pick and Prediction

  • Netherlands Handicap

The Dutch players will be eager to get some goals in this game and have scored at least 2 goals in 11 of their 15 previous games in all competitions. We have faith that the Dutch can get their mojo back against Qatar and although we believe their team total of over 2.5 goals to be a good bet at -117, we believe a better selection would be to take their Asian line at -2.0 for some nice plus money at +105.

Cody Gakpo has scored two of the Netherlands' 3 World Cup goals having only taken two shots and he is available to find the back of the net at +160 with the top-rated sportsbooks.

Predicted Score: Qatar 0 - Netherlands 3
