Cadiz CF vs. FC Barcelona
Saturday, September 10, 2022 – 12:30 AM EDT at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla
La Liga Trends
- Barcelona are unbeaten in their previous 20 home games in all competitions
- Barcelona’s last 4 wins saw them win by at least 3 goals
- Cadiz CF has lost 4 consecutive La Liga games
The Barca We Know and Love
Back with a fresh start and new beginnings, Barcelona has started their 2022/23 campaign ideally by claiming 10 of a possible 12 points from their first four domestic outings.
The Catalan outfit riffled some feathers when drawing against Rayo Vallecano in the La Liga opening weekend.
Still, a 4-1, 4-0, and 3-0 consecutive streak against Sociedad, Valladolid, and Sevilla has since eased the minds of the Barca faithful.
Last season is one that Barca would rather forget, but manager Xavi hasn’t rested when building back this squad to a prime title candidate, and they now look capable of challenging for the top trophies.
Worst Start Possible for Cadiz
Basement dwellers Cadiz collecting zero points from four matchdays is undoubtedly a concern for Sergio Gonzalez’s squad.
Still, Los Piratas cannot be overwhelmed by the Spanish giants, and they must treat them like any other team to remain focused and stand a chance of success.
Gonzalez’s men defeated Barca at Camp Nou last season, and they’re interestingly unbeaten in their previous four meetings with the Catalan giants.
However, this is more of a reflection on the Barcelona of past times, and it isn't easy to envision them preventing the goal-scoring prowess of Lewandowski and co.
Cadiz CF vs. FC Barcelona: Odds and Prediction
The La Liga betting odds favor the visiting team, and with the presence of Robert Lewandowski, I’m not surprised.
The Polish superstar has netted 8 goals in his previous four appearances for the club and, most recently, a hat trick during Barca’s midweek Champions League battle against Pizen.
Cadiz isn’t losing every game this term, but their losing streak isn’t likely to break versus the in-form Barca squad they’ll face on Saturday.
Cadiz can find a smidgen of confidence from their recent record versus Barca, but this isn’t the same squad, and I’m expecting the visitors to be all over their hosts this weekend.
Score prediction: Cadiz 1 - Barcelona 4
RB Leipzig vs. Borussia Dortmund
Saturday, September 10, 2022 - 09:30 AM EDT at Red Bull Arena
- Dortmund has won 4 consecutive away games
- Dortmund are unbeaten in 11 of their previous 12 away fixtures
- Leipzig have won just 1 of their last 6 Bundesliga games
- Leipzig have scored at least 1 goal in 10 consecutive home fixtures
The Struggles in Leipzig
With a mere 5 points collected from their first five games of the Bundesliga season, positivity was also rocked when Shakhtar Donetsk dismantled Leipzig 4-1 in their first Champions League group stage fixture. This loss came shortly after a 4-0 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, and a change had to be made.
Subsequently, Domenico Tedesco was removed as the club’s manager. Although he gave Leipzig a positive run last term, winning the DFB-Pokal, the most recent results couldn’t be accepted by the Red Bull ownership group.
Marco Rose will replace Tedesco, and Die Roten Bullen’s squad will want to impress their new boss and avoid a third straight defeat.
Rose will debut as head coach versus his former club while managing his boyhood favorites, and he’ll unquestionably be up for the task.
In a polar opposite fashion to Leipzig, Dortmund has started the season with dominant performances.
The return of Edin Terzic, who replaced Rose in the summer, has delivered almost-perfect results thus far; barring a complete meltdown versus Werder Bremen, BvB has been faultless.
Having lost to Leipzig in both domestic meetings last term, it would be bittersweet to hand their former boss a losing debut game.
The likes of Marco Reus and the up-and-coming English superstar Jude Bellingham will provide Rose with complex challenges.
RB Leipzig vs. Borussia Dortmund: Odds and Prediction
To no surprise, the Bundesliga betting odds favor the home side, which could be due to the growing injury list at Dortmund.
In addition, the arrival of a new manager will always provide some added variables, and Leipzig could get up for this fixture.
I don’t believe a moneyline prediction is wise, but I expect goals from both sides, and the over 2.5 goals market is providing some good value.
Score Prediction: Leipzig 2 - Dortmund 2
