FC Barcelona vs. Elche CF

Saturday, September 17, 2022 – 10:15 AM EDT at Camp Nou

La Liga Trends

  • Barcelona are unbeaten in their previous 20 home games in all competitions
  • Barcelona’s last 5 wins saw them win by at least 3 goals
  • Elche have won just 3 of their previous 19 La Liga away games
  • Elche has lost 3 consecutive away games at HT/FT

Five on the Bounce for Barca

Sitting two points behind their Real Madrid rivals, the Catalan outfit looks beyond their recent downtrend from previous years and continues to look like the dominant Barcelona we know and love.

Remaining undefeated through five La Liga matchdays, Barca is now hunting for their fifth straight victory, and a plethora of additional goals to add to their impressive 15-goal tally obtained thus far.

Xavi’s men will enter the weekend as wounded soldiers, having lost to Bayern Munich 2-0 during their midweek Champions League appearance. However, they can take solace in knowing their loss in Munich didn’t represent the team’s efforts, as it was mainly an even game against the Germans, despite the scoreline.

With the international break ahead, we should expect Barcelona to deliver their most exemplary efforts. Although they won’t be underestimating any squad in La Liga, they’re entering a fixture versus a team who’ve looked less than impressive of late.

Relegation Worries for Elche

Elche fans remained positive entering the 2022/23 La Liga campaign after placing in the 13th position last term.

However, as Los Franjiverdes enter their third consecutive season in the top flight and the relegation was a mere four points away from them last term, they’ve already begun to struggle this season after collecting just one point from five domestic appearances.

Elche has netted a mere 2 goals this season while allowing 13, perhaps the most worrying statistic when heading to Camp Nou with a disgruntled Barca squad in wait.

FC Barcelona vs. Elche CF: Odds and Prediction

The La Liga betting odds favor the home team with a gigantic price differential, which is entirely expected.

Despite losing by a slight margin last season (3-2) to Barca, Elche isn’t likely to receive the same luxuries this weekend.

The Catalan outfit is a different beast this year, and I anticipate we’ll witness another domestic slaughtering from Robert Lewandowski and co.

Score Prediction: Barca 5 - Elche 0

Newcastle United FC vs. AFC Bournemouth

Saturday, September 17, 2022 - 10:00 AM EDT at St James Park

Premier League Trends

  • Newcastle are unbeaten in 12 of their previous 13 EPL home games
  • Newcastle have won just 1 of their previous 6 EPL meetings
  • Bournemouth’s last 7 away games have all seen over 2.5 goals scored
  • Bournemouth are conceding an average of 4.25 goals in their away fixtures

God Save the Queen

Since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the Premier League schedule has received multiple postponements, and the uncertainty of the EPL calendar continues this week. However, the Magpies are guaranteed a return to action. After a five-game winless streak, Eddie Howe will be hoping he can take advantage of a newly promoted Bournemouth squad.

Howe’s men are winless since their EPL opening weekend battle versus Nottingham Forest. They’ll be looking to maintain their 100% win record versus newly promoted sides and avoid the dreaded stalemates they’ve recently been accustomed to.

From a positive angle, Newcastle has lost just one game on home turf in 2022, and this was an extremely 1-0 loss to Liverpool.

With that said, they’ll need more than positive home records if their bid to disrupt the European-chasing group can come to fruition, the takeover is in full effect up north, but the results aren’t matching the money in the bank.

Out With the Old, in With the New

The Cherries decision to release manager Scott Parker has seemingly worked out thus far.

Temporary replacement coach Gary O’Neil has taken four points from his first games as manager, but his squad’s evident problem in allowing goals to be scored could become a problem this weekend.

Having allowed 18 goals scored against them this term, Bournemouth could set a new record for the most goals conceded in a club’s opening seven EPL games of the season if the Magpies can fire three in the net.

Newcastle vs. Bournemouth: Odds and Prediction

To no surprise, the EPL betting odds favor Newcastle to take all three points, despite their lack of game-winning moments this term.

Bournemouth won’t have the luxury of facing a temperamental defense as they did with Forest last time out.

With the return of Saint-Maximin and Guimaraes to the Newcastle squad, the home side is looking primed to snap their winless streak.

Score prediction: New 2 - Bournemouth 0
