An intriguing match takes place this weekend as 2nd place Chelsea host 3rd place Liverpool, although the away side is only one point behind Chelsea and has a game in hand, so this is a must-not-lose game for the host.

Both teams come into this fixture having not won their previous outing with Chelsea drawing 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool suffering a loss to Leicester City, just their second loss this season. Liverpool is surprisingly away favorite here at the Premier League odds as the top-rated sportsbooks have them set at +130 to win, compared to Chelsea’s +200 and the draw +250.

Chelsea FC vs. Liverpool FC

Chelsea Struggling to Keep Clean Sheets

When Thomas Tuchel first took charge of the Blues, they kept something crazy like 18 clean sheets in 25 games, not exact figures but it was something like that. They have started to slip up defensively big time in recent weeks as they have only kept 2 clean sheets in their previous 10 games, and they came against Wolves and Brentford, who are both ranking inside the bottom five of goals per game. It could be a tough day at the Bridge for Chelsea with this Liverpool attack looking to bounce back after their loss to Leicester.

One positive for Chelsea heading into this game is Romelu Lukaku is back scoring goals on a regular basis, his rhythm was offset having gone on a drought of 7 games without a goal and then a further 8 games he missed through injury. He has now scored 3 times in his previous 3 appearances (we are excluding the Leeds game because he only played 4 minutes).

Chelsea should have the know-how and squad depth to pick up a result against this Liverpool side, especially on home soil.

Liverpool’s Winning Streak Over

Liverpool went on an 11 game undefeated streak in which they scored 26 goals and conceded 12 times. Following an 8 game winning streak, they drew 2-2 with Tottenham, took extra time to beat Leicester in the EFL Cup, and then evidently were handed their first defeat in 12 games just six days later against Leicester City, who somehow managed to beat them 1-0 despite being outshot 21-6 and 12-1 on the corner count.

All three of Liverpool’s attacking trio are available for this game and one would have to think they can at least get one goal following their numerous chances against Leicester. Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mané have combined for 32 goals and 11 assists, although Salah has 9 of those assists and 15 of those goals, he is playing better than he ever has.

Chelsea vs. Liverpool Pick

Chelsea can’t keep clean sheets these days and without Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, and Reece James, they will struggle just that little bit more again the peace of these Liverpool strikers. We really can’t make a case for Chelsea keeping a clean sheet in this one, don’t be surprised to see Liverpool score twice in our opinion.

Elsewhere Chelsea should also feature on the scoreboard with their own attacking power and Liverpool’s Konstantinos Tsimikas that can be exploited down the right-hand side as he will play most likely start instead of the suspended Andrew Robertson. Liverpool has only managed to keep one clean sheet in their previous six away games, the only team who failed to score on them was Wolves.

This is going to be an incredible game to watch, we somehow can not see how this will be a boring game, Liverpool will want to win here and Chelsea would love a victory to create some breathing space between them and their opponents but ultimately, they will probably settle for a draw.

We think the plus money on both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is the play here. There is some nice value there and although recent head-to-heads have not seen this soccer pick cash, these are different circumstances and each game should be taken on its own merit. We see this game ending 2-1 to either team or else a possible 2-2 draw.
