Two Top Teams Lacking Consistency
Halfway into the 2022/23 Premier League, nobody could’ve predicted Liverpool and Chelsea to be in ninth and tenth place in the EPL standings, respectively. But this is precisely the case, as two of Europe’s most highly touted teams head into their weekend clash with consistency issues, and points must be put on the board.
Liverpool has not lost back-to-back away games, and a return to Anfield will be a sigh of relief for Jurgen Klopp, as they’ve won six of their last nine games on home soil and will be fortunate to face a Blues squad who’ve performed terribly under Graham Potter.
Since the dismissal of head coach Thomas Tuchel earlier this season, Potter hasn’t been able to craft the success he previously owned at Brighton. As Chelsea boss, Potter has won just two of his last ten games in the Premier League.
No Attack Versus No Defense
Chelsea’s underlying issue is their attacking options. With a mere 22 goals from 19 domestic games, they’re the lowest-scoring team in the top half of the table. And if they’re unsuccessful on Saturday, Aston Villa could force Chelsea into the bottom half of the table and further away from any hope of a Champions League qualification place.
Liverpool, on the other hand, continues to struggle at the back. Klopp’s defense has allowed 25 goals in 18 games this term. Allowing three goals a piece to Brentford and Brighton is a huge concern and will need to be rectified if the Reds stand any chance of qualifying for Europe next season.

The available EPL odds at Bookmakers Review are relatively conservative on the moneylines for both Liverpool and Chelsea, but the Reds hold slight favoritism because they’re playing on home turf.

If Tottenham can hold off Manchester City and Arsenal find a result versus Manchester United, a Saturday morning success for Newcastle United would boost them from fourth to second in the EPL table. Sitting among the top-five teams has been nothing out of the ordinary for the Magpies this term, as the rebuild at Newcastle is in full swing, and they’re only just getting started.
Newcastle holds onto the best defensive record in the Premier League this term, allowing just 11 goals from 19 games, and their lone defeat season was away from home against Liverpool at the end of August.
Not Much Hope for Palace
Since Newcastle’s last loss, they have gone 14 games without defeat with an impressive nine clean sheets during this period. These are worrying statistics for Palace, a team that failed to net a single game in four straight fixtures before their recent clash with Man Utd.
The Eagles did hold Newcastle to a goalless draw earlier this term, but it was one of eight games where they’ve failed to score, and England’s most robust defense can easily cause troubles for the Palace final third once more.
Betting Pick and Prediction
The available EPL odds have positioned Newcastle as -115 favorites despite being the visiting squad. These odds result from Palace’s poor run in recent months, as a Newcastle victory is the most likely outcome.
Palace had a tough 90 minutes against Manchester United on Wednesday. With just three days rest, Newcastle will enter Saturday’s encounter with an added three days rest and will subsequently own much fresher legs.
Newcastle is a defense teams can’t break, and we expect this trend to continue. With plus-money on the visitors keeping a clean sheet, the value is excellent, and we shouldn’t take it for granted.
