Newcastle United FC vs. Crystal Palace FC

Saturday, September 03, 2022 – 10:00 AM EDT at St James’ Park

Premier League Trends

  • Newcastle are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 Premier League home games
  • Newcastle have scored at least 2 goals in their previous 3 EPL home games
  • Crystal Palace have won just 1 of their last 7 EPL away meetings
  • Crystal Palace have been conceding an average of 2.50 goals in their away games

Tired Legs in Tyneside

Following a midweek showdown with the mighty Liverpool at Anfield, Newcastle has no time to dwell on their 2-1 defeat as the Premier League schedule has them back to action with a mere two days of rest.

Making his debut appearance for the Magpies, Alexander Isak shot home the opening goal against the Reds in what could have been the perfect beginning to his Newcastle career. Unfortunately, Roberto Firmino and Fabio Carvalho played spoiler and handed Newcastle their first 2022/23 season loss.

Winning just one of their five opening Premier League meetings isn’t what Newcastle expected, as they’ve now gone winless since their success versus Nottingham Forest on Matchday 1.

However, glimpses of greatness versus Liverpool and Manchester City can be taken positively, and a visiting Palace squad won’t deliver the same attacking worries on Saturday.

Midweek Woes for Palace

Wilfred Zaha scored a spectacular goal against Brentford this past Tuesday. Although the star striker and his team will own an extra day's rest over their weekend opponents, allowing Brentford to fight back will undoubtedly be lingering on the minds of Patrick Viera’s squad.

Stomping out a four-game winless streak on the road is next on the agenda, and despite their lack of wins this season thus far, the Eagles’ have notably scored in their previous 5 away trips.

Newcastle vs. Crystal Palace: Odds and Prediction

The available EPL odds at top-rated sportsbooks expect Newcastle to take all three points with a -105 moneyline price tag. But the smart money should be coming on the chance of both teams finding the back of the net.

Scoring and conceding goals is becoming a regular outcome in Palace’s away games, and I expect a similar pattern to follow here.

Newcastle vs. Crystal Palace Score Prediction: Newcastle 2 – C Palace 1

Aston Villa FC vs. Manchester City FC

Saturday, September 03, 2022 - 12:30 PM EDT at Villa Park

Premier League Trends

  • Aston Villa has lost 3 consecutive EPL games
  • Man City are unbeaten in their last 20 EPL away matches
  • Aston Villa have won just 1 of their last 9 EPL games
  • Man City have defeated Villa in 7 consecutive domestic meetings

High Spirits in Manchester

With 5 games, 13 points, and 19 goals, the defending English champions are flying high to start their 2022/23 campaign as they’ve notably dominated most of the opposition in the first five games of the season.

Erling Braut Haaland made his Premier League debut in August and has already etched his name into the Manchester City history books.

He’s already set a record for the most goals scored in a player’s opening five EPL games, scoring nine, and has now secured back-to-back hattricks in the Citizens' last two domestic appearances.

Looking to make it 18 games undefeated in the EPL, Man City won’t be worried about achieving this feat with a less-than-impressive Aston Villa team in front of them.

Gerrard Will Be Fired

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has avoided becoming the first manager to be fired in the Premier League season. Still, the former 42-year-old Liverpool player should feel uncertain about his future with the club.

Villa met with Arsenal in a midweek clash and was utterly outclassed in the first 45, and although his team proved they own a sense of urgency in the second half, losing another game doesn’t boast much hope for the Midlands club.

Failing to hold a clean sheet in 10 consecutive EPL games is a concern, as Villa’s defensive frailties will have Haaland licking his lips. Gerrard is in desperation mode, and with 3 points on the board from a possible 15, he needs to act fast before losing his job.

Aston Villa vs. Manchester City: Odds and Prediction

The current Premier League odds expect an easy outing for Manchester City, and a -303 moneyline seems like a gift when considering Villa’s appalling form.

However, in true Manchester City fashion, I believe they’ll deliver another straightforward win with at least 2/3 goals to spare.

Aston Villa vs. Manchester City Score Prediction: Aston Villa 1 – Man City 3
