Magpies Fly Toward the EPL Title Chase

As the newly established EPL winter break is imposed on English clubs due to the World Cup in Qatar, Newcastle could return to action during Christmas with a solid spot in third place of the division’s standings.

This weekend, they’re the betting favorites to defeat Chelsea, evidence that they’ve been deserving of everything they’ve earned this season thus far.

The Magpies enter Saturday’s meeting with Chelsea following a midweek Carabao Cup success over fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace. And despite rotating his squad for this cup fixture, head coach Eddie Howe watched his team continue their winning ways.

No defeats can be found in Newcastle since August, making them an excellent wager to overcome Chelsea. They’ve surprisingly evolved into a title-chasing squad earlier than expected since the Saudi takeover.

The Unpredictable Blues Squad Still Possesses the Quality

The on-pitch performances of Chelsea haven’t always matched their squad depth this term, but there’s no denying this Blues squad can match Newcastle's talent-for-talent in every position.

A four-game winless run has put a dampener on Graham Potter’s side, but with a Champions League round of 16 placement in the bag, perhaps a lighter schedule will favor his team moving forward.

Sitting in seventh place in the EPL table, Chelsea must reinstate their past success over Newcastle, which has seen them win the last four meetings. That said, we can’t neglect that the 2022/23 Magpies squad is an entirely different beast.

Pick and Prediction

The available EPL odds at top-rated sportsbooks have positioned plus-money on both teams, but at +130, Newcastle is taking the favorable betting position this weekend. We’d instantly be backing Chelsea to win this fixture in almost every season for the past ten years. But we can’t ignore Newcastle’s current progression, especially when the six-time English champions aren’t in the best form.

I don’t see why both managers wouldn’t settle for a point on Saturday. Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling and Callum Wilson will compete this weekend. Still, they will be teammates for the England squad in Qatar, and I don’t envision these players overexerting themselves with a dangerous risk of injury present.

Picking either side to win is risky, but the under 2.5 goals is the safe play in a fixture that points to a cautious 90 minutes ahead of the World Cup.

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC vs. Arsenal FC

Premier League Trends

  • Wolves are still without a head coach
  • Arsenal owns the current best away record in the Premier League

No Direction in Wolves

While Julen Lopetegui has been appointed as the newly instated Wolves manager, he won’t arrive at the West Midlands club until after the Qatar 2022 World Cup tournament.

Interim boss Steve Davis’ hasn’t achieved much since the departure of Bruno Lage in early October, as Wolverhampton is second from bottom of the EPL table and could be in for a relegation battle this term.

A midweek Carabao Cup win over Leeds United was undoubtedly a positive. Still, the red flags continue to wave when this side has conceded at least three goals in 3 of their previous 4 Premier League home games.

Arsenal Lick Their Lips

With the opportunity to remain atop the EPL table heading into the World Cup break, Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal squad will be licking their lips at this Wolves team, who’re winless in four consecutive domestic outings.

Arsenal fans were hit with an unfamiliar result during their midweek Carabao Cup outing versus Brighton. The North London club left empty-handed with a 3-1 loss and was ultimately knocked out of the competition. However, Arteta rested his key players, showing that he doesn’t hold this tournament in high regard and unquestionably has bigger fish to fry.

With a returning first-team squad at the helm, Arteta’s men have now won 6 and drawn 1 from their previous seven EPL games. Commendably, the Gunners have conceded just four goals when playing away from home this season, making them the best EPL defensive team on the road.

Pick and Prediction

The available EPL odds at Bookmakers Review have Arsenal as the betting favorite as the top of the table meets the bottom.

I wouldn’t expect a complete drubbing over Wolves, but Arsenal is unquestionably the pick. Most players aren’t going to compete with full intent because Qatar is around the corner, so backing the Gunners to win by a small scoreline is a betting pick I can get behind.

Score Prediction: Wolves 0 - Arsenal 2
