Juventus vs. Malmo FF

Wednesday, December 8, 2021 -12:45 PM EST at Juventus Stadium

Form, Mentality, Champions League Odds and Trends

  • Juventus have won their previous five UCL home fixtures
  • Malmo have lost their previous three UCL away games
  • In their previous seven UCL appearances, Malmo has recorded a mere one win

Group H First Place Up for Grabs

The final day of Champions League group fixtures is upon us. And it's Group H where Juventus and Chelsea will fight for their right to claim a first-place finish.

The Italian giants saw Malmo of 3-0 during the reverse fixture in Sweden, and because Malmo has nothing to play for, we can guarantee they'll have the more leisurely 90 minutes than their Group H foes Chelsea. In addition, Malmo secured the Swedish title on Saturday, and it wouldn't be surprising if half the squad has already clocked out from the season with nothing but pride to play for on Wednesday.

Juventus' domestic run has been underwhelming, but their Champions League success has been near-faultless until a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea. They'll fancy their chances to secure all three points against basement dwellers Malmo, especially when they've defeated Malmo to nil across every encounter between the two sides.

Final Thoughts | Champions League Matchday 6 Betting Pick

Malmo successfully defended their Swedish league title at the weekend, and it's hard to envision they'll be putting 100% into a fixture that could jeopardize squad health for no return.

Juventus will be hoping Zenit St Petersburg can reduce Chelsea to a draw or loss whilst they aim to steal the first position of Group H.

Juve has won four of their previous five home games without conceding a goal, and I can visualize a similar result against Malmo, whose away record is less than desirable.

With that said, the best sportsbooks aren't providing much value across the board. Still, I did, however, stumble upon a plus money punt when wagering on Juventus to win both halves – an easily obtainable outcome which they've already accomplished against Malmo on hostile turf.

Score Prediction: Juventus 4 – Malmo 0

FK Zenit Saint Petersburg vs. Chelsea FC

Wednesday, December 8, 2021 - 12:45 PM EST at Krestovsky Stadium

Form, Mentality, Champions League Odds and Trends

  • Chelsea remains undefeated in 16 of their previous 18 UCL fixtures
  • Chelsea have kept three consecutive clean sheets during UCL games
  • Zenit have won just one game from their previous 11 UCL meetings

Different Setting, Same Result

When Zenit St Petersburg visited Stamford Bridge in the reverse fixture, they were held to a 1-0 defeat. The reality is, Chelsea could've and probably should have won that meeting by two or three goals. Zenit was a low and fortunate deficit, but I'm not optimistic they can repeat the same outcome when hosting the Champions League title holders on Wednesday.

Chelsea must secure all three points to avoid Juventus claiming the first position of Group H. Zenit has already booked their place in the Europa League. Overextending their efforts to defeat Chelsea would be a foolish move.

Chelsea doesn't need to win, but their seeding position will be essential to face a lower-performing team in the UCL final-16 round. The Blues have accumulated 12 points from five fixtures with an aggregate score of 10-0 from four victories.

Zenit frustrated Chelsea in London, but we shouldn't expect any other result besides a routine win for Thomas Tuchel's men.

Final Thoughts | Champions League Matchday 6 Betting Pick

Chelsea has allowed a mere one goal throughout five Champions League meetings they've been involved in. Despite their recent domestic results showing a downtrend in goals allowed, I think the London outfit can resume a clean sheeted dominant victory.

The available betting odds for Chelsea to win to nil are well priced because they've conceded five goals in their previous three Premier League games.

However, the Champions League defending champions have been solid at the back in their 2021/22 UCL Group H fixtures – a trend I don't mind backing with such tempting odds for our second UCL pick.

Score prediction: Zenit 0 – Chelsea 2
