We preview the matchups, examine the Bundesliga odds and serve up picks to consider. So, without too much preamble, let’s just get right to it.
VfL Wolfsburg vs. Hertha Berlin
Saturday, January 15, 2022- 9:30 AM EST at Volkswagen Arena
Wolfsburg and Hertha Berlin are almost level on points in the Bundesliga table. Wolfsburg ranks 14th with a 6-2-10 record and 20 points while Hertha Berlin ranks 13th with a 6-3-9 record and 21 points.
The recent form is relatively comparable between these middleweights, too. Wolfsburg is coming off its sixth-straight loss in domestic action – a 1-0 defeat on the road to Bochum – that extends their winless form to seven straight fixtures (0-1-6). Hertha Berlin is also coming off a disappointing 3-1 loss to Koln at home. It marked their second loss in their last six fixtures (2-2-2).
Very little separates this pair in terms of their standing in the league, but there’s a clear difference in form with Hertha striking a more convincing pose. That said, the visitors are just 1-1-4 in their last six away fixtures – a run of form that underscores the soccer odds for this game which are skewed in favor of the hosts.
Die Wolfe is held as the home favorites with multiple sports betting sites. Potentially, a date against Hertha, with its worrisome road struggles, is the get-right game manager Florian Kohfeldt’s side needs. Hertha will be without key players Suat Serdar and Kevin-Prince Boateng for this pivotal game, adding to the value in backing the hosts here.
Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. Bayer Leverkusen
Saturday, January 15, 2022 - 12:30 PM EST at Borussia-Park
Bayer Leverkusen is riding high in the Bundesliga table, sitting pretty in fifth place with an 8-5-5 record and 29 points. They’re a point adrift of fourth-placed SC Freiburg and two points behind third-placed Hoffenheim. The premium on the win on matchday 19, therefore, couldn’t be any greater as Die Werkself aim to climb up Germany’s top league table.
Although Gerardo Seoane’s side is mixed on recent form, the last meeting between this pair resulted in a 4-2 win by Bayer Leverkusen. Czech sensation Patrik Schick struck first for Leverkusen in the eighth minute while Moussa Diaby and Nadiem Amiri scored a goal apiece to help lift Wolfsburg to the victory. Bayer Leverkusen is 2-2-2 in its last six fixtures.
Borussia Mönchengladbach is currently ranked 12th in the league with a 6-4-4 record and 22 points. Most recently, Mönchengladbach recorded one of the biggest upsets of the season, defeating league-leading Bayern Munich 2-1 on the road. The win snapped a five-game winless streak for Die Fohlen, sending seismic shockwaves through soccer betting markets.
Mönchengladbach is undefeated in their last two fixtures, but form stands at 1-1-4 in their last six fixtures overall. Prior to beating the mighty Bayern Munich, Die Fohlen settled on a 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim on the away and improved to a 1-2-3 mark in their last six away fixtures.
All told, this matchup is a bit of a tossup for soccer picks, and the odds are quite rightly packed tighter than an accountant’s purse. Both sides are dealing with injuries and absentees due to the African Cup of Nations. Additionally Nadiem Amiri tested positive for coronavirus. Given all the uncertainty with these teams, a draw might be the safer bet.
