After this week’s games, the Bundesliga risks having only one club in the knockout stage of the Champions League for the first time in a long, long, time.
Meanwhile, back home the title race has, instead, heated up all of the sudden: Bayern’s shocking collapse in Augsburg gives hope to Dortmund, although Borussia will likely struggle this weekend in Wolfsburg. Let’s dive into some Bundesliga odds!
VfL Wolfsburg vs. Borussia Dortmund
Saturday, November 27, 2021 – 09:30 AM EST at Volkswagen Arena
What a shock for Borussia Dortmund as they’re already out of Champions League with one game to go, and in spite of being in a group they could have easily topped. What a shock for Haaland, already out of both the World Cup and Champions League, and it’s only November 25th. This time around he is not responsible, he wasn’t there but for now, they have to stay on track.
What happened is very surprising because while they’ve cut the gap with Bayern in the standings to a one-point difference at home, in Europe they were completely torn apart by Sporting. Surprisingly, Wolfsburg are among those two German teams that could still qualify to the next stage. Despite being at bottom of the group they’re just three points shy from the top.
That means that Wolfsburg has lost a bit of pace in the league because what happened in Europe during the week will make them lose stamina at least in this game. As for Dortmund, it will be very difficult to take the full award at the Volkswagen Arena, and without Haaland, they could settle down for a draw.
RB Leipzig vs. Bayer Leverkusen
Sunday, November 28, 2021 - 11:30 AM EST at RedBull Arena
Leipzig seems to be coming from behind for quite some time now. Their performance in last month has been way above the issues they had at the beginning, and if only the Champions League had started later (and if only they wouldn’t have ended up in the same group with PSG and Man City) they would still have chances to be in Round of 16.
They lost to Hoffenheim after a streak of seven undefeated games, and that’s a reason why they will come fully loaded this time. Leverkusen has beaten Bochum after four winless games, but still, they are performing way below their standard. They are still 4th and Leipzig 7th, but only three points apart and this game can be particularly significant for getting back into the path for a Champions League spot. They are improving their level game by game, and odds seem generous on them.
Bayern Munich vs. Arminia Bielefeld
Saturday, November 27, 2021 - 12:30 PM EST at Allianz Arena
It’s very hard to find an explanation for Bayern bottling in Augsburg, last week. Simply, they must have been distracted by underestimating the opponents, as injuries and covid cases aren’t enough to justify what happened. Not even the Champions League fixture, as Bayern was not only already qualified but also sure to be top of the group!
Not even the scheduling is a valid point, as this was coming off an international break. Poor Arminia Bielefeld that now will pay for all the rage loaded inside Bavarians. But actually, there is some value here as Bielefeld scored in each of the last five games, and Bayern is always leaving some space behind.
They even did it in Kyiv, so watch out for the great combo Bayern to win and both teams scoring for our last Bundesliga pick.
