Join us in previewing Tuesday’s semi-final fixtures for the African Nations Championship as we deliver our expert analysis, best betting picks, and predictions.

As all three of our African Nations Championship Quarterfinals wagers cashed – including two under 1.5 goal-plus-money wagers – last time out, Algeria and Senegal continue their trend of low-scoring encounters en route to the CHAN finals.

However, they must continue to implement their defensive superiority before a place in the finals is possible, as Niger and Madagascar are also hoping to become one of the four remaining teams that lift the African Nations Championship trophy for the first time.

Algeria vs. Niger

Tuesday, January 31, 2023 – 11:00 AM EST at Stade Olympique de Rades

CHAN Trends & Team Form

  • Algeria has won their last 6 games in all competitions
  • Algeria has maintained a clean sheet in their last 6 matches
  • Algeria’s previous 8 games have all contained under 2.5 goals
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in Niger’s last 4 games in all competitions

Game Preview

An intense quarterfinal matchup that resulted in red cards handed out for both teams eventually saw Algeria extend their impressive win streak in the CHAN competition, as the tournament hosts sent the Elephants of Ivory Coast packing with yet another 1-0 victory.

As a result, the Fennec Foxes are now riding a four-game consecutive win streak without conceding a single goal, putting the spotlight on their team unity and defensive attributes.

Their semifinal opponents, however, don’t own such a dominant record, despite reaching this tournament stage. Niger has only won two of their last eight games in all competitions.

And with the home support and an excellent level of form in tow, Algeria will fancy their chances against a Niger squad whose most notable victory was their 2-0 quarterfinal success over Ghana last Saturday.

Niger will enter this game riding a two-game win streak and a three-game clean sheet streak, so confidence levels will be high as the Dama Gazelle look to upset the tournament’s hosts.

Betting Pick

Both teams have proven their ability to defend well under pressure of late, and these impenetrable defenses should provide another low-scoring, tight affair.

However, we cannot ignore Algeria’s home advantage and the current win-streak they’re riding, so backing the goal total to go Under and another slim victory for the Fennec Foxes is our final prediction and betting picks.

Senegal vs. Madagascar

Tuesday, January 31, 2023 – 02:00 PM EST at Stade Nelson Mandela

CHAN Trends & Team Form

  • Senegal is unbeaten in 66 of their last 78 games in all competitions
  • Senegal concedes an average of 0.60 goals (CHAN)
  • Madagascar has never defeated Senegal in a competitive game

Game Preview

Following the best-ever World Cup run for Senegal, the Lions of Teranga have reached the penultimate stage of the CHAN tournament and are two wins away from lifting the prestigious African trophy for the first time in the nation’s history.

Senegal was involved in a tight 1-0 success over Mauritania to reach this stage, and this victory saw them take three wins from their last four outings since the turn of 2023, following a two-game winless streak at the end of 2022.

After falling victim to a semi-final exit at their last continental tournament appearance, Senegal should be confident in getting the better of Madagascar – a team who’ve been unable to defeat Senegal in their only four games against each other.

Madagascar was the far superior squad in their quarterfinal outing – dismantling Mozambique behind a 3-1 scoreline on Saturday. This run puts Madagascar on a four-game win streak where they’ve allowed just three goals and scored 14 during this stretch.

Betting Pick

If history continues its trend, Senegal is the right side to back in this meeting.

We should expect a back-and-fourth battle, as Madagascar hasn’t given up during CHAN thus far, but we expect Senegal to edge this encounter and meet with Algeria in the final.
