Golf’s third major championship of 2022, the US Open takes place this week at the esteemed Brookline Country Club, the scene of the 1999 Ryder Cup.

Read on for our complete PGA betting guide, picks, golf odds, and our in-depth player analysis!

US OPEN 2022

June 16 to June 19, 2022, at Brookline Country Club

Par 70, 7263 yards

U.S Open 2022 Venue: Brookline Country Club

Like the PGA Championship track, Southern Hills, this week’s track has been restored by the well-respected designer Gil Hanse. We know what a great job he did in Tulsa so we can expect more of the same this week at a quirky track that has only two par 5s and a slew of risk-reward short par-4s.

The greens are rumored to be a similar small size to Pebble Beach while their undulations will test the players’ skill and nerve to the utmost. Strategically, it will be important to keep the ball below the hole and therefore, important to hit fairways, so allowing maximum control on the approach shots.

The 2013 Amateur Championship was held here, and Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick won so after his form last week and in recent weeks we can expect the young Englishman to be a popular choice. It’s fair to say, his best form on the European Tour is at tree-lined tracks and Brookline Country Club fits that remit perfectly.

Jordan Spieth Player Profile

Thinking of this week’s greens as small in context with Pebble Beach and Hilton Head Golf Links, it points to one guy.

Jordan Spieth could be your man this week and avail himself of a second US Open at Brookline. The modern course design and re-designs have heavily favored making tracks longer and that’s probably prejudiced the Texan’s chances in the recent US Opens since his win in 2015 at Chambers Bay.

You can bet, your bottom dollar he’s better suited by this week’s quirky test given his love for Pebble Beach and Hilton Head where he’s won and perennially contends.

We know Jordan Spieth is back close to his best and could taking last week off be the perfect thing to do for the twenty-seven-year-old?  I think it could be having been in contention or winning on several recent occasions before a major championship.

Take the hint and add Jordan Spieth amongst your best bets this week at the US Open with Everygame at the price of +2500.

Patrick Cantlay Analysis

  • The layers need to be careful this week, I am not sure it’s safe to lay Patrick Cantlay.
  • Patrick Cantlay’s record there in recent years is 4th earlier in the year, 3rd in 2021, and after 11th in 2020, suggesting he’s becoming something of a specialist on the Monterey Peninsula.
  • He performed creditably at Pebble Beach in 2019 when it hosted the US Open and that event is likely to correlate with this week’s setup.
  • The most concerning fact about Patrick Cantlay is his poor major championship record in recent years and during his career. That’s something he will be keen to put right sooner rather than later, and this week’s test looks perfect coming off a solid Memorial Tournament warm-up.

Patrick Cantlay Odds and Betting Picks

The attractive price of +2500 at the PGA odds board means we are being amply compensated for Patrick Cantlay’s poor major record in the context of his 2022 form which has five top 4 finishes in eleven starts.

Webb Simpson Profile

It’s been a difficult 2022 for Webb Simpson with injuries casting a shadow over his participation week on week. With those injuries now behind him, I think, it’s fair to expect the thirty-six-year-old from North Carolina is about to start playing well.

There have been strong indicators that’s so with a third round of 65 at the PGA Championship, catapulting him into our vision for the first time in 2022. He followed up with a 66-69 opening two rounds in the Charles Schwab Challenge and excited myself and readers of my column after I had tipped him but sadly fell away over the weekend.

I am happy to put that down to what I call ‘contention rust’ and expect Simpson to be sharper the next time he’s at the top of the leaderboard. That could be this week given Simpson’s strong US Open record and a win ten years ago at the Olympic Course in San Francisco which funnily enough has correlations with Brookline given it’s shorter than normal US Open venues with small greens.
