The TPC River Highlands is a PGA Tour track that provides a trappy test of nerve for the professionals this week.

Located on a bluff of land above the Connecticut River with tree-lined fairways and was re-designed by the acclaimed Pete Dye.

A strategic test is in keeping with the designer’s traits and the bent poa mix of greens is the same as last week’s US Open at Brookline Country Club.

Travelers Championship 2022

June 23 to June 26, 2022, TPC River Highlands

Par 70, 6841 yards

Accurate ball-striking tee-to-green is paramount this week and players often need to dial back their power for accuracy.

That theme continues with several lay-up short par 4s while the driveable par 15th at just under 300 yards is one of the ultimate risk-reward holes on the PGA Tour.

Brendan Todd Analysis

On the one hand, there’s no chance of green type for this week’s PGA golfers in Connecticut at the Travelers Championship while on the other hand, players who experienced last week’s US Open, need to pick themselves up from a brutal test of their game.

Two Brendan’s in good solid recent form missed last week due to a lackluster early part of the 2012/2022 season.

The caveat is that they both have a great opportunity to beat mentally drained golfers coming off last week’s US Open.

Firstly, Brendan Todd is a player I like and whom I tipped a couple of weeks ago at the Canadian Open.

St. Georges Golf Club Hasn’t Been Used in Over a Decade

The Canadian Open was a strong-looking event at St. Georges Golf Club, a track not used for the event in over a decade.

I must confess, my read was a little wrong as the quirky short course was still overpowered by the cream of world golf with Rory McIlroy, Tony Finau, and Justin Thomas filling the podium placings.

Always easier with hindsight, but perhaps I should have gone Todd for a top 20 finish instead of the top 10, because his creditable finish in the 13th left a sour taste in the mouth, given the knowledge that he played to the level that I expected.

Will Todd Get Redemption?

We do know that Brendan Todd has strong previous form at the TPC Highlands and soon after the PGA Tour resumption in 2020 after the Covid-19 hiatus, Todd had a tremendous chance to add a fourth PGA Tour title to his resume after the third round of 61 catapulted him into the lead after 54 holes.

His final round however became something of a nightmare, shooting 75 to eventually finish 11th.

Strangely until the Charles Schwab Challenge a few weeks ago, Todd hasn’t contended for a PGA Tour title since that final day implosion suggesting that it set him back a little confidence-wise.

Travelers Championship Renewal

This year’s renewal of the Travelers Championship offers Todd a decent opportunity of gaining redemption in his current form.

That current form from the thirty-six-year-old from Pittsburgh is so solid, that I won’t make the same mistake of passing him up in this week’s top 20 markets.

I advise taking Brendan Todd as a longshot win at +8000 at GTbets and banker top 20 selection amongst this week’s best golf bets at BMR.

It’s time for Brendan to show his Steele

The second Brendan this week is Brendan Steele who like Todd has had a rather lukewarm season until recent PGA Tour events.

The signs were good that change was afoot at the Memorial Tournament for thirty-nine-year-old Californian, Steele who made a second top 10 finish in succession after an eye-catching performance at the PGA Championship.

His ball-striking was elite level for these two events, and should he bring it forward to this week at TPC River Highlands he must have a realistic chance. The last decade has seen Brendan Steele be an ever-present entry at the Travelers Championship with five top 20 and two top 10 finishes.

It’s very difficult to find a better mix of course and exceptional current form going into an event while knowing Steele will not be fatigued in any way from last week’s US Open.

Brendan Steele has an extremely strong look in the place markets and I’m suggesting you have a banker stake on the top 20 amongst your best golf bets this week while adding the top 10 to more modest stakes while happily, both best bets are available at BMR’s top-rated books and betting sites .
