The Match 2022

Wednesday, June 01, 2022 – 06:30 PM EDT at Wynn Golf Course

The Wynn Golf Course plays host to the twelve holes “The Match” for the second occasion having hosted the 2021’s grudge match between Brooks Koepka and Bryson Dechambeau.

This year we will see Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers take on Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes.

Who Designed the Wynn Course?

Tom Fazio has been the designer of the Wynn Golf Course throughout and redesigned it with his son Logan, before being re-opened in 2019, a little shorter than the original course.

Rather unusually, the Wynn Golf Course backs onto the Wynn Casino and Hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard. With space at a premium, it’s not the longest Championship Course but there are some aesthetically stunning holes, particularly the par 3, 18th hole with a waterfall in the backdrop.

Last year it was played as the penultimate hole for the contest with the 17th hole (par 4) as the final one. With no golf professionals in the mix in 2022, we should expect an easy set up especially with pin positioning to help gather approach shots and it could easily end up a putting contest.

Last Chance Value Pick for the Match 2022

The Match is going to be a betting bonanza, especially on the Las Vegas Strip and thanks to television. As you can see from my previous looks at “The Match”, I’ve spent a lot of time estimating what to expect from the four quarterbacks.

I do believe the early exchanges are going to favor the experience of Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers because playing such a high-profile match of ‘not’ their main sport is going to be testing all the players’ nerves.

Until the younger pairing of Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes gets a winning hole under their belts, you can expect their anxiety to be the higher of the two. They lack the fundamental experience of this stage that their rivals have.

I like the experienced duo of Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers to assert themselves early in the contest and win the first hole, so take the betting odds of +200.

Can Allen and Mahomes Swing the Momentum?

Yes, I do think that once Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes settle into “The Match” they will start to swing the momentum in their direction. We have seen Josh Allen play very respectable golf at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am with professional, Keith Mitchell who himself, finished 12tht in the PGA Tour event.

A total of 54-holes of a PGA Tour event is a good grounding and experience for Allen, and I expect him to play to a similar level as fellow 8-handicapper, Tom Brady.

Is Patrick Mahomes a Ringer?

Yes, I do believe that Patrick Mahomes could be the ringer or I prefer to say, an improver in this contest. We’ve not seen anything of him playing celebrity golf events except last year’s American Century Championship which, considering that it was his debut, was a respectable effort.

Aaron Rodgers’ Trash-Talking

Aaron Rodgers declared recently to Charles Barkley, a notoriously bad golfer himself, “Charles, I’ve done my scouting report and I heard that Josh was terrible at Pebble (Beach) and Pat has played the last couple of years in Tahoe and hasn’t broken 80 yet.” Rodgers continued to poke fun at the two young quarterbacks when he talked to Barkley

“I think he (Mahomes) was closer to being in a group with you – no offense Charles – than me. I feel really good about our chances.” The trash-talking could go one of two ways, either it will affect the young guns’ confidence or strengthen their resolve.

Those early exchanges in “The Match” will be crucial because, if Allen and Mahomes can stay with their more experienced partners, the pressure will start to build on Brady and Rodgers.

Come From Behind Victory

With those statements or banter above, Aaron Rodgers has certainly set himself up for the fall. I quite like a small bet on Brady and Rodgers to take the lead but Mahomes and Allen to win “The Match”, so search around BMR’s top books for this betting pick.

If you cannot find it, request the bet at BetOnline or wait until the match goes into play, at which point multiple live betting markets will come available.
