The Las Vegas Aces have been running through the rest of the WNBA to start the season and now they are heavy favorites as they welcome in the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday night. Below, we’ll go over the WNBA odds and give you a free winning pick!

Los Angeles Sparks vs. Las Vegas Aces

Monday, May 23, 2022 – 10:00 PM EDT at Michelob ULTRA Arena

The Most Balanced Offense in the WNBA

Even after losing Liz Cambage to free agency, I knew the Aces would still be a really good team. They still have the league’s reigning MVP and Dearica Hamby is an exceptional talent that now has a chance to play a lot more in their frontcourt.

With new head coach Becky Hammon, a healthy Kelsey Plum and an unleashed Jackie Young, the Aces may be the most balanced offense in the entire W.

Although the sample size is small, the Aces have been the league’s best offense through seven games. With an offensive rating above 110, the Aces are nearly two full points per 100 possessions better than the championship favorites, the Connecticut Sun (5 games played).

Riquna Williams Is Out Tonight

The Aces will be down Riquna Williams tonight, but other than her, the rest of the Aces’ bench will be intact tonight.

Without Williams as a spark plug off the bench, the Aces will have to lean more heavily on their three starting guards, rookie Aisha Sheppard and veteran Sydney Colson. I don’t think Williams’ absence will affect the offense that much.

Not only have the Aces been the best offense in the WNBA this season so far, but a lot of it also has to do with their first halves.

Against a team like the Sparks, who have been a slow-starting offense in first halves, the first half value on the Aces as two-possession favorites is ripe for the picking tonight.

Sparks vs. Aces Team Trends

  • Las Vegas’ offense is even better in the first halves this season, averaging 114.3 points per 100 possessions.
  • Las Vegas net rating of +23.9 points per 100 possessions in the first halves this season.
  • The Sparks have a first-half net rating of -12.5.
  • The Sparks rank 10th in the W in first-half offensive rating and their defense ranks 11th in that regard too.

Being ready to play a game from the opening tip is on the players, but it’s also on good coaching. Good teams get out to leads early in games and take advantage of their opponent being sleepy and/or not quite in the right mindset to play a competitive game.

For the Aces, it’s definitely on Hammon a lot that the Aces have been good in the first halves, but on the other side, it’s a big indictment of Derek Fisher.

What’s even more frustrating is the Sparks had this same problem last season. L.A. ranked dead last in the WNBA in the first-half offensive rating in 2021 at 92.9. They were even worse on the road at 89.4

Sparks vs. Aces Betting Pick

So, for this game tonight, the Aces may be a great first-half value. Hammon is going to coach circles around Fisher and at only two-possession favorites, all it will take is a good first or second-quarter run from the Aces and they could be up by double figures at halftime.

The full game spread available at BMR's top-rated books and betting sites is also really indicative of the game we might see here. The Sparks aren't playing up to potential and the Aces look close to their peak right now.

For my WNBA betting picks, I’m high on the Sparks if they can figure things out, but with the way they have been playing to start games, they are a proper fade for me.
