The New York Liberty are coming off a big win over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday and now they travel down to Atlanta for a meeting with the Dream. Let’s see what the WNBA odds tell us at the best sportsbooks!
New York Liberty vs. Atlanta Dream
Friday, June 24, 2022 – 07:30 PM EDT at Gateway Center
New York Liberty Analysis
While the defense has been a problem for this Liberty team at times this season, that was not the case on Wednesday as they held the Sun to just 77 points and less than 20 points in three of the four quarters of basketball.
- New York also got some great balanced scoring with five players in double figures, including four starters.
- While New York is a little thin at guard still, the pickup of Marine Johannes has really helped take some pressure off Sabrina Ionescu.
Since Johannes has joined the Libs she has produced double-figure scoring in three of her five games and in her last two she has netted eight three-pointers out of 15 attempts.
New York will once again have their hands full tonight in Atlanta, but not for the reasons you might think.
Atlanta Dream Analysis
- To start the season, the Dream has been a force defensively, but things have started to fall apart on that end lately as their team’s injury list grows.
- Atlanta has four players listed as questionable tonight, including Erica Wheeler, who usually starts for the Dream when healthy.
We may not know if those women will play tonight until closer to game time, but the Dream signed Yvonne Turner to a hardship contract on Thursday, so it doesn’t look good right now for most of them after they missed Wednesday’s game.
WNBA Betting Prediction for Today
Atlanta Defense Against Liberty Offense
That being said, the lack of depth for Atlanta will only hurt their defense and help the Liberty offense tonight and it’s why I’m going with a play on the over in the first half.
Over their last five games, the Atlanta defense has fallen off a cliff. They are allowing 105.9 points per 100 possessions over their last five and in the first halves of those five games, their defense has been similarly bad and their pace has gone way up.
Dream On Last Five First Halves
In those last five first halves, the Dream owns a pace of 103.4 possessions per 48 minutes and 86.2 possessions per 40 minutes.
Even though the Dream offense isn’t very good, I see them pushing the pace tonight against the Libs. At home this season
The Dream is one of only two teams that play faster than 100 possessions per 48 minutes in the first halves.
WNBA Pick for Today
If they are successful in playing fast and getting some easy buckets against the Libs, I could easily see both teams combining for 80 or more first-half points.
As long as the Atlanta defense from earlier in the season doesn’t show up, for my betting picks, I see a first half where both teams have at least 40 points.
