Generals gathered in their masses. Just like witches at black masses. Evil minds that plot destruction. Sorcerers of NXT’s destruction.

Your friendly neighborhood carny is back to give you my picks for this Sunday’s NXT WarGames event.

This will be the first event in the brand’s nearly decade long history that will not have the “TakeOver” branding, which is a further signal that the brand’s evolution into NXT 2.0 is official and the NXT many fans grew to love is a thing of the past.

That will be further hastened this Sunday night on Peacock, when we see two, that’s right two WarGames matches. The first between former NXT Women’s Champions Raquel Gonzalez and Io Shirai, joined by Cora Jade and former NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray as they face off against the trio of Toxic Attraction led by NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose and Gonzalez’s former best friend and NXT Women’s tag team co-champion, Dakota Kai.

Right now from our friends at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), the babyface team (Gonzalez, et al) are a -125 favorite to win the Match beyond… and they’re pretty on-point with this line.

With there being two WarGames matches you need to dive into very surface level pro wrestling booking logic.

  • Mandy Rose needs a loss that won’t hurt her
  • We need to create a credible threat to the women’s title
  • We need Raquel to get revenge on Dakota
  • And the NXT vets are gonna lose in the other WarGames match.

That last bullet is the most important.

Right now team “Black and Yellow” of NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, LA Knight and Pete Dunne are a +250 underdog to defeat team 2.0 which consists of Bron Breakker (son of Rick Steiner), Grayson Waller, NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, and the greatest thing to ever happen to pro wrestling in the last 18 months, Tony D’Angelo, who are a -200 favorite to win WarGames.

With Ciampa defeating Breakker at Halloween Havoc, Johnny Gargano in the midst of contract talk with the WWE following a brief extension he signed recently (similar to Adam Cole prior to his move to All Elite Wrestling), and similar long term questions about Dunne, the likelihood of the old guard of NXT (which is really weird to type), getting the win feels impossible.

If you’re willing to lay it on the line this Sunday night, I suggest a team Gonzalez, Team 2.0 and Joe Gacy parlay, as Gacy’s recent push could signal the end of the Cruiserweight championship as we know and turn into a third title and with a +140 line on BetOnline, could make a fantastic surprise.

WWE NXT WarGames 2021 Parlay

  • Raquel Gonzalez, Io Shirai, Cora Jade and Kay Lee Ray (-125)
  • Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Grayson Waller and Tony D’Angelo (-200)
  • Joe Gacy (+140)

Parlay Odds: +548 with BetOnline

If you don’t want to tempt fate, stick with the 2.0/Raquel tandem as a parlay and possibly buy yourself a jaunty hat.

I also don’t suggest you bet on the hair vs. hair match between Duke Hudson and Cameron Grimes. It’s a pick’em at -120 and weirdly enough, I agree.

Grimes is a revelation on NXT and has had an epic 2021, but with rumors being that WWE management may want to change Grimes’ signature “redneck caveman” look, which would kill any momentum he has dead in the street, it makes me hesitant on the man who has been nothing but “money” in 2021.
