The scrappy Indiana Fever take to the road on Thursday as they enter Sin City for a matchup with the Las Vegas Aces. Can Indiana cover these WNBA odds?

Fever Heading for Number One Pick

The Indiana Fever have been in an almost-constant state of rebuilding since their run to the Finals in 2015.

Things haven’t changed this season either. The Fever are far and below everyone else in the WNBA this season, but their young roster has a ton of talent, it just needs time to come together and develop.

The Fever easily have the worst net rating in the WNBA this season, with teams outscoring them by more than 12 points per every 100 possessions.

Now going against one of the league’s toughest teams and the oddsmakers have the Fever sitting as +17 underdogs at most sportsbooks

These two teams are starting a series of games against one another on Thursday. They meet in three of their next four games, including the final two being in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse here in Indianapolis.

Bad Spot for the Aces

That being said, the Fever are catching the Aces on a bad night. Not only is this game in Vegas, but the Aces are coming off getting smacked by the Atlanta Dream two nights ago and giving up 35 first quarter points.

The Aces lost that game pretty badly and will likely be looking to take out their frustrations on the worst team in the W on Thursday.

That being said, the Aces have had problems early in games before Tuesday and it once again got the in trouble against the Dream.

The Fever are not even close to the Dream’s upside, but they do have some juice early in this game if the Aces continue their trend of playing poor defense in the first quarter.

The Sharp Pick

The struggles of the Aces early in games is kind of a mystery. It could be the inexperience of Becky Hammon not getting her team ready to play, or just general over-confidence of the Aces when they play at home.

Either way, Las Vegas is only 8-5 SU and 5-8 ATS when playing at home this season. The Aces opened the season 5-1 ATS at home and have since lost seven straight ATS at home.

It would not surprise me to see the Fever get blown out in this game and while I’m not taking the full game spread, I do think they have one juice early in this one.

The Aces have allowed 106.6 points per 100 possessions in their home first halves this season and in those same home games’ first quarters, the Aces are the worst defensive team in the W, with a defensive rating of 111.6.

This is the first time these two have played one another this season and I could easily see a scenario where the Aces don’t take the Fever seriously early in the game and Indiana could cover this first quarter number.

Right now, Bovada (visit our Bovada Review) has the first quarter odds at +6 (-130) which is a nice value if you can still get it. That’s a ton of points to spot the Fever in a spot that has troubled the Aces.

During their home ATS losing streak, the Aces have allowed nearly 115 points per 100 possessions in first quarters.
