Montreal Alouettes vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Thursday, July 28, 2022 – 7:30 PM EDT at Tim Hortons Field

Can the Tiger-Cats Build Momentum?

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats might have lost last week but it’s fair to say, it was a much-improved effort on a road trip to the impressive BC Lions. The week previous, the Ticats had won their first CFL game of 2022 with a close home win over the Ottawa Redblacks.

  • There is undoubtedly a reason for encouragement from the Ticats in the last two weeks of the CFL.
  • Quarterback Dane Evans gave a strong showing, throwing for close to 300-yards and a 70% completion rate while importantly, not throwing an interception for a second game in succession.
  • Wide receiver, Steven Dunbar Jr. continued his fine 2022 form with a fourth touchdown of the season and remains a constant threat.

The Alouettes Going For Two Straight on the Road

The Montreal Alouettes put up an impressive 40 points on a road trip to Ottawa last week as they did BMR readers and followers a favor with a money line win.

It was only the second CFL win for the free-scoring Alouettes in the second-highest scoring match of 2022 so far.

  • Thursday’s win away in Ottawa was even more impressive given the Alouettes lost the opening quarter 0-8.
  • What transpired after, was a hat-trick of rushing touchdowns for Dominique Davis.
  • A much-improved display from quarterback, Trevor Harris who threw two touchdowns and 341 yards with an impressive completion rate of over 80%.

Our Betting Pick

This looks like an interesting match-up in the East Division with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats badly needing a home-field victory to stay in contention after a poor start.

This will be no easy task for dueling Grey Cup runners-up, Hamilton against the open and free-flowing Alouettes. It looks a little bit of a contradiction in styles, and if the game is close perhaps it will be the impressive Steven Dunbar Jr. that could be the difference between the two sides.

I am looking forward to this gritty contest and fancy the Tiger-Cats to come out winners of a tight contest on the Money Line with GTbets (visit our GTbets Review) at the price of -150.

BC Lions vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders

Friday, July 29, 2022 - 9:00 PM EDT at Mosaic Stadium

Can Saskatchewan Put the Rough Ride Behind Them?

Last week was a rough ride in Saskatchewan with Covid-19 rearing its ugly head and decimating the playing staff. The Roughriders were forced to play a day late with the third-choice quarterback, Jake Dolegala against the Toronto Argonauts and unsurprisingly came unstuck 21-31.

  • Despite being without ten regulars due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Roughriders led 21-14 after three quarters so deserve some credit for Sunday's effort.
  • Returner, Mario Alford shone brightly with a 112-yard return touchdown.
  • Jake Dolegala will have gained valuable experience at quarterback but the Saskatchewan Roughriders should have the core of their missing players back this week.

Will the Lions Get Their Scoring Boots Back On?

BC Lions scraped a low-scoring home-field win last week against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Vancouver team made a sensational start to their 2022 CFL campaign up to a couple of weeks ago when the Grey Cup holders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers derailed them.

  • Last week’s win over the Ticats showed BC Lions have the fighting qualities needed to be a factor in this year’s Grey Cup. Sometimes, it’s about the games you win when you’re not playing well that keeps a team on the correct course. It came as a shock that the previously free-wheeling Lions only put up 17 points, but a win is a win!
  • Nathan Rourke still functioned in his starring role at quarterback with 250-yards and two touchdowns and importantly a completion rate near 75%.
  • It was unusually a defensive battle on Thursday night with Hamilton until running back, James Butler lit the blue touch paper with a 37-yard run. The play culminated in a field goal for Sean Whyte who stayed perfect for the season.
  • Jevon Cottey and Lucky Whitehead both got on the scoresheet for much-needed touchdowns.

Our Betting Pick

This is a really interesting match with the Roughriders’ defeat to Argonauts needing to be forgiven on form purposes given how unlucky they were with Covid.

That said it's still an extremely difficult test against the BC Lions who've not scored as easily in the last two matches but time will tell if that’s a thing or just one tight match after a Winnipeg mauling.

Looking at the spread of -1.5 to the BC Lions, our best sportsbooks are struggling to part them. I think the BC Lions have fewer injury or illness worries going into this match and the money line makes appeal at -125 with Bovada (visit our Bovada Review)
