This week, the PGA Tour has an alternate event to the Open Championship, the Barracuda Championship.
The event offers the players the chance of much-needed FedEx points for those trying to retain their PGA Tour Card. The Stableford points concept is a change from the normal 72-hole strokeplay contests and means aggressive golf is rewarded more than normal with 2 points for a birdie, and 5 points for an eagle.
The key to unlocking this week’s Barracuda Championship may be to find those aggressive types perfectly suited to the unique Stableford format.

Tahoe Mountain Course Review
The last two renewals have seen Truckee in Nevada play host at the Tahoe Mountain Course where the ball flies further at a higher altitude.
The Old Greenwood is a Jack Nicklaus design with signature big greens through the rolling hills of Nevada’s towering pine trees.
Brandon Hagy Analysis
In last year’s Barracuda Championship, Brandon Hagy appeared to be on a career upswing through the PGA Tour when finishing 5th. Undoubtedly, the Stableford points scoring system was a huge positive for the big-hitting aggressive 31-year-old from California. I remember it well because I backed him to win and a top 10 finish, and he sneaked in the placings with a strong final round.
The reason I tipped Hagy, was an encouraging 12th on-course debut in 2020, twinned with some excellent form prior that had seen him finish 6th at the Rocket Mortgage Classic a couple of weeks earlier, which followed on from a breakthrough runner-up finish at the Honda Classic.
Since that 5th a year ago, Hagy’s form has dropped off the golfing grid and resurfaced a couple of weeks ago in the John Deere Classic where there was a noticeable improvement.
How to Bet on Brandon Hagy
We know Brandon Hagy is a young aggressive big-hitting type perfectly suited to the unique dynamics of the coming week in the mountains. I suggest that we take him in the win and top 10 markets for our best bets.

Joseph Bramlett Analysis
World number 240, Joseph Bramlett has plied his trade manfully for the last couple of seasons on the PGA Tour without making that breakthrough.
The 34-year-old from California has a best PGA Tour finish of 7th in last year’s Byron Nelson Classic but that’s his only top 10 finish in just under 100 starts. That’s a hell of a grind for Bramlett, but this season he has made ten cuts from sixteen PGA Tour starts, and recently at the US Open, there was promise in his 37th place finish.
Not only was that a strong week’s work in a major championship but the style he pre-qualified in when being the medalist at Woodmont Country Club in tough windy conditions with rounds of 66 and 70 was impressive.
How to Bet on Joseph Bramlett
It’s fair to say, Bramlett has been around the golfing block, being on and off the PGA Tour for just over a decade. Last week was an example of the ups and downs of tour life when having got a start in the Scottish Open he was bumped out to LIV players who had got in through the back door of legal action.
This Stableford Format at the Mountain Course could be the ideal environment if we look back to the previous two renewals here. Last year, Joseph Bramlett was 20th here while in 2020 he was 12th. If anything suggests a strong affinity with the Barracuda Championship that form does for a PGA Tour grinder.
I believe we can confidently add Joseph Bramlett to our best golf bets this week at BMR. Take the BetOnline top 20 line while adding a more speculative small stake bet on the outright.

Austin Cook Analysis
Like Brandon Hagy and Joseph Bramlett, Austin Cook needs a big week on the PGA Tour to lock up his playing privileges for next year.
The Barracuda Championship Stableford format could be perfect for the streaky player who can go very low when on fire, with the extra points for birdies and eagles, certainly 15th last season here would indicate so. Readers and followers will know I tipped Cook up in last week’s Barbasol Championship and it’s the case of keeping faith with the Arkansas man.
How to Bet on Austin Cook
It’s a must to add Austin to Cook something special up at the Barracuda Championship so add him amongst your betting picks this week.

Chesson Hadley Analysis
I mentioned how the PGA Tour season is drawing to a close and many players like Chesson Hadley are in danger of losing their playing privileges. Interestingly, Hadley finished right on the magic number of 125 last year so we know he can handle the pressure.
At 160th, before last week in the FedEx Standings, the 34-year-old from North Carolina is in danger of relegation despite a 5th place at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago.
Last week’s John Deere Classic saw Hadley consolidate his good form and now he needs one big performance to lock up his PGA Tour card.
How to Bet on Chesson Hadley
Following the betting odds, I am going to trust him to make that one last big push at a course he finished 17th on in 2020 and advise a top 20 finish for Chesson Hadley with BetOnline amongst your best golf bets this week.
Golf Pick: Chesson Hadley Top 20 (Odds TBD) at BetOnline
