The Barbasol Championship debuted on the PGA Tour as an alternate event to the Open Championship.

This year sees a different tweak, as many of the top PGA Tour players head across for the Scottish Open (PGA Tour co-sanctioned with DP World Tour) and a warm-up and acclimatization of the links golf demands needed for next week’s Open Championship.

That means an interesting slant for this year’s Barbasol Championship, with many DP World Tour players who miss out on a berth in the Scottish Open having the opportunity to travel over and play on this year’s event bringing a real eclectic form mix for punters to sort out.

Barbasol Championship 2022

Thursday, July 7 to Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Keene Trace Golf Club

Par 72, 7238 Yards

Keene Trace Golf Club Review

The Keene Trace Golf Club has played host since 2018 and in those three renewals, a score around 25 under par was needed to be victorious.

That means, it’s a birdie-fest for the PGA Tour professionals and an affinity with the Bentgrass putting surface can only be positive for a player’s chances.

The PGA Tour is drawing to a close on the 2021/2022 season and this week’s Barbasol Championship and next week’s Barracuda Championship offer weaker fields to earn FedEx ranking points to retain their PGA Tour card.

Austin Cook Analysis

Austin Cook needs a big week on the PGA Tour to lock up his playing privileges for next year. Currently, Cook is 157th in the FedEx standings with only the top 125 being exempt in a few weeks.

There has been a recent promise from his efforts, particularly his result at the Canadian Open where he populated the top of a strong leaderboard, eventually finishing 13th. Sound efforts at the Travelers Championship and John Deere Classic reinforced the belief that a big result is close for Cook.

With Austin Cook already proven at Keene Trace Golf Club after a 4th in 2019, there’s every reason to be optimistic he can do similar this year and lock up his PGA Tour card. Funnily enough, Cook was also 6th in the 2015 Barbasol Championship, albeit at a different course but this event holds fond memories.

Josh Teater Analysis

Josh Teater is the ultimate journeyman professional, teetering on the fringes of the PGA Tour. A runner-up at the Puerto Rico Open of 2020 was his finest hour on the PGA Tour in recent memory but he was also runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open back in 2013.

The interim period has been a hell of a grind for the 43-year-old local man, but we know he’s a strong affinity with his home state event. 6th in 2019 followed by 15th last year show how well accustomed he is to conditions in his home state.

His recent form has been encouraging on the KFT Tour with a couple of top 20 finishes in recent weeks.

How to Bet on Josh Teater

That’s all the encouragement that I need to support Josh Teater for my betting picks in this week’s side markets of top 10 and top 20 with BetOnline.

Michael Gligic Analysis

Canadian, Michael Gligic has been subdued in 2022 but there have been encouraging signs recently. 40th at the Travelers Championship was solid form in a strong field and he improved on that last week at the John Deere Classic with high-quality play around TPC Deere Run.

In that context, 19th place finish here last season on debut is encouraging and brings the sense that the Canadian 32-year-old will be in a sweet spot mentally this week.

With last year’s positive debut around Keene Trace Golf Club, let’s trust Michael Gligic to play well this week in Kentucky. That course experience could be a fundamental advantage given how many DP regulars are making their course debut after a long flight.

How to Bet on Michael Gligic

I suggest supporting Michael Gligic for a top 20 finish this week in the Barbasol Championship amongst your best bets while adding a small stake win on the Bovada price of +6600 about the Canadian winning.

Bo Hoag Analysis

It’s been a year to forget so far for Ohio resident, Bo Hoag. Last week was the first cut he has made on the PGA Tour in 2022 and he went on to have a strong week’s work, finishing in 16th at the John Deere Classic.

This week in Kentucky, Hoag should be arriving with his confidence boosted at a venue he was 11th at last year. I did notice that Hoag appeared in slightly better form when he qualified for the US Open earlier in June.

This year’s slump has come as a shock to golf followers after a solid 2020/2021 PGA Tour campaign from Hoag that promised much.

How to Bet on Bo Hoag

It’s been a long hard season for many, but Bo Hoag has everything to play for this week now he’s found form so let’s support him in the top 20 market with BetOnline

Golf Pick: Bo Hoag Top 20 (+375) at BetOnline
