For the last six months, I have been of the belief that Kim Joo-hyung, more affectionately known as Tom Kim for his love of Thomas the Tank Engine would be perfectly suited to the TPC Sawgrass.
At twenty years of age, Tom Kim is a precocious talent. Kim though is not typically long off the tee like most of the young talent making their way in the sport, but rather an accurate immaculate tee-to-green game which is perfect for TPC Sawgrass.
The two PGA Tour events that Kim won in the fall of 2022, the Wyndham Championship and Shriners Open offer many correlations with the results here and what is required from the players.
I find it easy to look past his last two results at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Genesis Invitational on tracks that don’t ideally suit and in context, his made cuts were impressive on debut.
At (+4000) Tom Kim is the best bet at BMR this week for the 2023 Players Championship.

I can only think of one player who matches Jason Day’s recent course form at the Players Championship on the quirky track, TPC Sawgrass and that’s Sergio Garcia who has joined LIV Golf.

Can Shane Lowry Find the Resolve?
At the Honda Classic the weekend before last, Shane Lowry bravely finished the event after his uncle, Jimmy Lowry passed away on the opening day of the tournament.
The thirty-five-year-old Irishman expressed his sadness in an interview after Saturday’s round when he said, “To be honest, I wanted to go home on Thursday when I heard the news. A lot of people talked me out of it.” Lowry went on the add, “Hopefully I can go out and make him proud tomorrow. Everyone keeps telling me how proud he was of me over the last number of years."
Make him proud, he did, with a 5th place finish, and despite probably being tempted to travel home, Lowry went on to play in last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.

I suspect that was a commitment to this week’s Players Championship, golf’s “unofficial fifth major” as a preparation. Lowry has three times shown up well in the Players Championship, looking well suited to TPC Sawgrass demands, and fits the mold of many previous champions, who were elite ball strikers but were prone to be dodgy putters.
With that perspective, a top-20 finish about Shane Lowry looks like a safe prop bet with BetOnline this week.
