Fancy Starting the Liv Golf Season at Greg’s Place

The golfing year at LIV Golf begins this week at the Greg Norman designed, El Camaleon Golf Course in Mexico.

The track is well known to many of the former PGA Tour players who competed in the Mayakoba Classic since its inception in 2007.

With Norman’s controversial position as LIV Golf’s leader allowing him to steal the venue from under the PGA Tour’s nose, he will be looking for a loud and proud beginning to the new LIV Golf season in Latin America.

Craig Edwards @EdwardsTips_ finds the LIV Golf Mayakoba best bets for BMR.

Even though this tournament is being held in Mexico, we have betting options for you! Check out the best US betting sites available in order to make secure wagers in your own home state.

LIV Golf Invitational Mayakoba 2023

Friday, February 24 to Sunday, February 26, 2023 – at El Camaleón Mayakoba Golf Course

Par: 71, 7071 yards

LIV Golf Format

  • Individual Three-day 54-hole event
  • Shotgun start on all tees each day
  • 48-player events
  • Team event also with twelve teams of four players
  • Prize Money – individual event – $20,000,000
  • Prize Money – team event – $5,000,000

Course Notes

  • The course’s best defense is the natural elements, otherwise long hitters flourish in calm conditions.
  • With the course situated along the cliff, ocean coves, and bays, the aforementioned elements can be severe on occasion.
  • Paspalum Greens that are slower and grainier than normal.
  • 7017 yards – par 71

With the settled weather forecast this week and all three days looking similar in temperature and wind speed. I think we should expect an easy low scoring test for the LIV Golf professionals.

Carlos Ortiz

Player Facts and Stats

  • Best Performance: Houston Open 2021 winner
  • Key Metric: Total Driving

Who Knows the El Camaleon Course Best?

That’s an easy question, Carlos Ortiz is the homeboy who excels in his local agronomy, with two runner-up finishes at the Mayakoba Classic and another two top 10s since an impressive 9th on debut in 2014.

At the prices quoted, Carlos Ortiz is valued to make home experience pay this week as many of the principals in the betting market never previously had Mayakoba on their PGA Tour schedule.

Did You Know McDowell and Perez Formerly Won at Mayakoba?

Starting the season here in Mexico is interesting to bettors, as former champions, Graeme McDowell and Pat Perez steal a march on much of the opposition with their positive vives and winning form at El Camaleon.

They are both dangerous sleepers this week, given many of the top players will be debuting at the track.  I am going to plump for both Graeme McDowell and Pat Perez to small stakes as long shot chances with a healthier stake on a top 10 finish to make their experience pay amongst our best bets at BMR

Mayakoba Team Picks

Who Are the Liv Golf Teams in Mayakoba?

Danny Lee (Ironheads)

Player Facts and Stats

  • Best Performance: Greenbrier Classic 2015 winner
  • Key Metric: Strokes Gained approaching the green

I am drawn to Danny Lee’s team in the betting market, the New Zealander is new to LIV but not to the course where he has developed a strong affinity with multiple top-10 finishes.

I really like the option of a top-10 finish in the singles event with a bet on his team the Iron Heads which has Kevin Na as captain.
