After two weeks of elevated events, this week’s Honda Classic is a big chance for the PGA Tour’s newbies. I have three such players for you to consider amongst your bets this week.

Don’t forget that any golf fans interested in betting on our golf picks can do so at any of these major US betting sites.

The Honda Classic

February 23-26, 2023 – PGA National Members Club

Par 70, 7125 yards

Course Notes

  • Tom Fazio’s design, toughened up on three occasions since 2002 by Jack Nicklaus
  • Par 70, 7125 yards with only two par-5s
  • Greens are elevated and heavily contoured with Tifeagle Bermuda grass
  • Key Metrics: Bermuda green putting, GIR (greens in regulation), and scrambling
  • Water in play on fifteen holes

Overall, PGA National is always one of the tougher tests on the PGA Tour illustrated by the table below where the winning score has never been better than 12-under par in recent years.

Lee Hodges

Lee Hodges is embarking on his second year on the PGA Tour at twenty-seven. Last season the Alabama boy finished in the top 10 at the Honda Classic on his course debut and that was after a respectable debut at the Genesis Invitational the week previous.

Player Facts and Stats

  • FedEx Cup: 90th
  • World Ranking: 198th
  • Strong Metrics: Sand save 13th

This time around at the Genesis Invitational Hodges was even better with a top-20 finish, which bodes well for his second attempt at the Honda Classic this week. The PGA National is heavily bunkered along with the many watery hazards and Hodge’s sand save percentage is his best stat on the PGA Tour.

Take the hint and add Lee Hodges amongst your best props bets this week at the Honda Classic with a smaller stake on the outright win market.

Adam Svensson

There are a couple of Canadians that have caught my eye this week in Florida. Firstly, Adam Svensson really put in an eye-catching effort at last week’s Genesis Invitational and that was his best effort of 2023 so far, but he has already won in this wraparound season with a victory at the RSM Classic last November.

Player Facts and Stats

  • FedEx Cup: 13th
  • World Ranking: 69th
  • Strong Metrics: Scrambling 13th

This week is a quick opportunity for a second PGA Tour title at a track the thirty-one-year-old looks well suited for given his 9th place last year and a win at the 2015 Web.com Tour Final.

Adam Svensson's strength is scrambling around the greens which is perfect for PGA National. For our bets, I am combining similar-sized wagers on a top 10 props finish and outright win.

Taylor Pendrith

The second Canadian that I am sweet on this week is Taylor Pendrith. The long-hitting thirty-one-year-old from the land of the Maple Tree looks like a strong Props only bet this week, given he is still searching for a maiden PGA Tour win.  A 7th-place finish at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am a couple of weeks ago was encouraging evidence that his game is in decent fettle.

Player Facts and Stats

  • FedEx Cup: 91st
  • World Ranking: 112th
  • Strong Metrics: Driving Distance 19th

Last year, Pendrith was 25th on his Honda Classic debut but like Svensson, he too had experience at the track from the 2015 Web.com Tour Final of 2015. With Taylor Pendrith still being a maiden on PGA and Korn Ferry Tour, we are concentrating on the props line of top 20 finish with BetOnline.

Golf Pick: Taylor Pendrith – Top 20 (+ 200) at BetOnline
